Those IOM angels are freaky looking characters Morezone!

They are somewhat. But i guess if you're an angel with a predisposition for slaying dragons, you're going to be a tad more macho looking than your run of the mill sugar coated Hollywood depiction of an angel.

Couple of 1/4 Isle Man Angels.  At 22k and 22mm they feel quite chunky compared to other 1/4oz coins.  They were covered in some stuff so had to give them a clean.

Padded the order with a half sov and got an Edward.  Beats getting a George or QE2.

Out of interest, as mine haven't arrived yet, how did you clean them? I'm assuming mine will also need a spruce up.

  3. 39.31 troy oz gold

    67.6 troy oz silver

    5.89g platinum

    2.78g palladium

I like the Ducats but my favs are defo the 50 & 20 Mexican peso, the Mayan calendar on the 20 peso is amazing.

The Metalor bars are 100g, the Perth Mint Oriana bars, Degussa bars and  Polska Mint bars are all 10g

MrD, can I ask where you buy your 20 peso coins from? Most places seem to be out of stock.

  4. Looks better than VF to me, although might not quite make EF (but bloody close IMHO). Not too dissimilar to the one @MCJ found.

Value wise? Spink has them at £275 in FDC condition, which this one obviously isn't, so who knows?

From your words, I would guess you got it for a song, so well done you.

Yes I agree, VF+/aEF and a nice looking coin. I haven't really taken much notice of Crowns and Florins, but I do like them.

  5. OK, for someone who wasn't going to buy anymore physical silver, I've just picked up at a small antique centre a 1927 Wreath crown. Not going to say yet what I paid for it, but I had to use my best acting skills to keep myself from grinning too much as I knocked him down a few more quid. Could do with a little help from our resident experts though on the grade of the coin.

Just had a quick look at price.

  6. you mean others are selling shields for spot+15%,

    maybe you could share :)

what I'm trying to say is that you should not be bothered by

a fall in price of an item you've just bought. think buying

cars, electricals etc. the strategy that you use should take

into account that the price can fall as well as rise.

    HH

    @HawkHybrid.

I missed this post of yours as well. Oops.

My strategy is to try and predict when gold has bottomed. Very difficult too do I know, but if I get within a few % I'll be happy. I will then start to buy bullion gold into the rise. Can't see the point of buying gold and if it goes down, not being concerned.

As for the sheild sovereigns at spot +15%. I'm working on it. I may, and it's a big may, be able to offer them on the forum at spot + 15% + £10 + postage. The advantage will be you get to choose a year and see a picture of the coins available. I'll let the forum know if the deal comes off by posting an expression of interest.

  7. would you rather be:

1, a person who bought a hgm shield sovererign knowing

that if the same shield came up it would be cheaper.

    2. a person who did not buy a hgm shield sovereign,

waiting for one to be in stock.

    HH

    Hi HH,

Sorry for not replying sooner, I missed your post.

Neither mate. I believe that the price of gold is going further down, so I'm staying away from buying any PM for a while until what I consider the bottom is reached.

But I'll entertain you anyway. I would not buy a HGM sovereign if I knew I could get one cheaper from a mate in the trade or from a house clearance etc. I wouldn't wait for one to be in stock at HGM, I'd purchase one from else where. There are other oulets as cheap as HGM, admittedly not as convenient though.

  8. a no stock response means there are more buyers than

there are sellers at this price(assuming it's not a logistics

issue or marketing thing). so the price should be higher

to match the buyers with the sellers. pricing without

stock is meaningless, just look at the chards site.

    HH

Hgm shield's aren't going up in price.

  9. I bought one from Goldline last week. It was an 1893 which I think is one of the more common dates but looks in good nick to my eye. I had never seen the liberty in the flesh and thought it looked a bit ugly in photos. I am now glad I purchased as is a nice looking coin.

I put a post up around 3 weeks ago to say they had them in stock, also Indian Head at same price. Surprised no one snapped them up earlier although did not get the Indian, next on my list if the price is right.

I must admit I do think the Liberty Head is quite manly looking. Never seen an actual coin though. Spoke to them this afternoon just to check, not got any in, but did say they update their website quickly when stock arrives. I guess because they haven't got any stock there isn't a market nor a price. Lol
  10. will you be keeping this mentality the next time hgm have shield

    sovereigns in stock?

if there is no stock then there can't be a market, and hence

there can't be a price. theoretical prices are just that... a

    theory.

    HH

Yes I will be keeping my own opinion no mater what. People, private investors/collectors hold stock, so there will always be a market and a price.

  11. the best value for money stuff sell out first. people who

have bought these coins don't care that spot is down and

that their coins selling price has gone down because there

is no stock left to buy.

    HH

I'd care, if having bought a coin and the spot price went down, regardless if the outlet I bought it from or anywhere else had any more in stock or not.

  12. They are a nice alternative to Sovs and like Sovs there are some bullion ones and some that attract a significant premium.

As I do not really know what I am doing at this point I tend to buy the best possible condition and at the cheaper end of the market.

You will really find one under £200 and the bullion ones commonly sell for £225 to £300. So the premium over spot is slightly higher mostly.

I paid a very reasonable price for this one. It came from a trader in Germany that I have bought from before. I may be lucky and it will grade AU58 but I may be unlucky and have it come back details with cleaning. That's the lottery.

This is the 10 Dollar Eagle that I bought recently from the same guy in Germany.

Nice looking coins you've got there. Thanks for the info, a great help.
