Ok I'm after a wedding ring and want a 22carat gold ring if possible but as close to spot as possible as I'm tight and don't want to pay the massive markups that jewelry stores charge. Just pure solid gold no fancy gems etc. Any suggestions guys?

Do you live near Hatton garden? You can get a great deal from the arcades if you negotiate and pay cash. We had ours made very close to spot! Pm me and I can give you the number of our dealer  if you wanted to make a trip there.

Many jewellers and scrap dealers would be happy enough to get more than spot scrap price, but you may have to catch them when they have some in stock which they have not yet scrapped, but they will want to charge for their time sorting through scrap, especially if you, quite reaonably, want to find something the right size, thickness, depth, and perhaps want it polishing, etc.

Bullion dealers buying from jewellers will normally have paid VAT on their scrap purchases, so will not be legally able or willing to sell on special scheme, and will need to charge VAT.

You would need to buy form someone who operates a VAT special scheme on their secondhand goods.

I do alright getting wedding rings in auctions. That being said most of mine are 9ct gold because they are more available and thats what I can afford, I'd give them a bash.

Nice. Any idea where to find these auctions?

As said above The Saleroom is good. and when you find an auction house you can google them and get their website to cut out some of the premium. It helps if there is one near you too, saves on delivery if you can just drive over and get it
