St George is a bit flat and the mint mark is extraordinarily clear

Photo is a little out of focus. Will take more with both sides

Slightly too thick?

Ohh sheet.

Could be different thickness/stamping pressure, maybe

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

The edge/rim looks a bit "lopsided".

I've recently just sent back a 1926 Sov that looked absolutely fine but weight and measurements were out.

Which dealer?

An auction house actually. That an a 500g vintage silver bar that was just about reading 92.5% but was supposed to be 99.9%.

I'm guessing they've messed up royally as the chance of me buying 2 fakes and no one else are slim to none.

It would not be fair to name the dealer as they are sorting it.

Some fakes are easy to be fooled by and without having testing gauges and profession machines this could easily have passed the eye test.

Put the setting on 90% and the rectangular shape can be seen which means this is probably 20-21ct

What's it like using the small wand on it. The originals aren't great with small coins.

FWIW those sort of reading are exactly what the one I had displayed but that was also only 7g, 22.5mm and 1.8mm thick so a bit easier to confirm.

Tested with ALL the wands, same results. I always use the wands if the main test fails

Should have mentioned that the coin does kind of pass the weight test at 7.97g

What thickness is it? If it's marginally out in your testing thing but is about the right width I'd be amazed if it was fake.

It is slightly wider and thicker, that was why it failed the gauge test. I knew at that stage there will be a problem.

Well bar the SG test as suggested above, you've pretty much done everything you can to say it is fake.

Normally there is a clear sign with measurements on sovereigns if it's fake as it's not easy to produce one that is of similar dimensions AND weight.

Annoyingly, if the dimensions are only slightly out and the weight is ok, the SG test may not help.

Just trying to be helpful. When I suggested testing SG I had no idea it had flunked weight, size, and sigma test. Ill get my coat 🤣

Just to add more onto this as I think it's quite an important subject.

This is the 1926 Sov that is all out on the measurements however, I can still manipulate the Sigma to show a decent reading by moving it by the smallest margin.

If I place it like normal, it's completely out but if I move it a fraction at a time I can get a good reading on it.

It's a really s****** example regardless. The pictures didn't show it to be so discoloured/shiny.

Coin has been posted back and today I get an email telling me that the coin has been XRF tested and is 22ct.

Something is not right as there is no way that my Sigma would read completely out on this coin where it perfect on all the others.

No amount of moving the coin around as @SilverRich has done with his fake would this coin have the reading anywhere near, never mind inside the brackets.

So what's the end result? A refund or they send it back to you and tough luck?

This has just reminded me to see what would happen with a fake that is so fake it's laughable.

This weighs 9.4g and is 2.7mm thick.

This is where the Originals ability to only test resistivity and not density comes into play.
