Decided to take 10k out of savings and buy a bundle of sovs. It will buy me 22 sovs and a couple of silvers.

Just looked on Chard's and the best value secondary market are £448 but they aren't in stock....just available to order. The 2023 coronation sovereign is the cheapest in stock at 458....an extra tenner each.

What would you do with 10k ?

Over 22 it does mount up that extra £10 per coin is half a sov on 10k

There are a number of other online dealers if you're ordering them

Other dealers are available but for eg

https://atkinsonsbullion.com/gold/gold-coins/gold-sovereign-coins/pre-owned-full-sovereign-gold-coin-mixed-dates

22 would give you £100 change from your 10k

You are better off buying in stages, maybe 5 at a time, thus if price drops, you wouldn't be on such a loss straight away.  This option gives you the chance to average down or up if price was to rise. Buying in stages will always be the best option in the long run.

I am sure if you put a wanted list for say 5 sovereign, members here will beat any online deal

PS, get yourself at list one month silver membership and you will see some excellent deals.  Today there were two double sovereign available for spot price, one has sold and one still available

12 platinum jubilee sovereigns and 10 memorial sovereigns would be what I'd buy. Lock away for 5/10 years

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

Would you not put a couple of 2023 King Charles in the mix too (not necessarily coronation)? New monarch and all that?

Five Gold Brits! The rest towards a kilo of silver

I'm thinking with the recent banking outages....that I should be upping my spendable gold and silver. So sovs and halves. Chards have 43 halves in stock?

If the balloon goes up tomorrow, I'm thinking a gold brit would be a bit large for buying a pig.... I reckon I'd need smaller coins 😂

So why are you here on the forum🤔 surely with £10,000 to spend, a few pounds paid on membership here and you will see all the bargains, enabling you to buy more than you could at the dealers with their current prices?🤔🤔

I normally buy small amounts for cash from a local bullion dealer as and when. Always preferred handing over cash face to face, that's why I've never bought on here. Perhaps I will try a membership to see what's available. Equally I drive past chards fairly regular so it would be nice to just pull over and buy as a job lot.

Mate you need to get yourself a silver membership and that'll give you instant access to all the best deals on sovs and halfs on the forum. As an unpaid member you miss everything by having to wait that crucial three days. Silver membership if paid on a one off basis will cost you a mere £59 for a year.  Well worth it when you consider that you can pick up sovs at a lower premium than any of the dealers. Your membership fee will be recouped on the savings you will make in no time.

If I had 10k cash, I’d go for the 44 2024 half sovs from Chards.

All else being equal, it is better to have two halfs than a full for the same money and there is an £8 difference total.

Secondary market half sovs tend to be more likely to be in bad condition than full and so bulk buying new is better imo.

With high SD postage costs, if you need to sell a load in one go, you will probably prefer to sell to a dealer anyway so it doesn’t matter if they are the same year.

If you sell one at a time, the year also doesn’t matter.
