Cutting up silver 10oz bars

I have a 10oz silver bar that I want to share with my brother. Can he take his half and cash it in? What’s the best method to share metal. Should I sell the bar and buy rounds, etc.

Cut the bar and it's viewed as scrap. Just trade the bar for either 2 x 5oz bars or 10 x 1oz coins/rounds. Then share with the brother.

Better to simply give him the cash for the amount of half the bar. As someone already mentioned, if you cut the bar it's going to only sell for scrap to a jeweller or something. Not sure bullion dealers would bother buying it.

Put a "For Exchange" listing in the sales section, If it's a nice bar someone may be willing to swap for 10 coins. (costs you nothing to try)

This predicament reminds me of a guy my grandfather knew who sold a shotgun.

He had a spare gun case but it was too small for the shotgun,  so he cut down the shotgun barrel to make it fit, thus rendering the shotgun useless and highly illegal.

I suppose if you want to avoid intrusive questions from bank staff when making a withdrawal it might not be useless.
