Great Seals of the Realm - Henry VIII

Recommended Posts

Any updates on this?  I got invited to an intro on Monday evening, but no new info.  A picture looked like maybe two gold sizes (1 and 2 oz, 1 and 1/4 oz?) and others in silver.  RM is pretty tight lipped on this.  I’m not even too sure of launch time - maybe Sunday evening will tell all.
The intro event was interesting, but California to London is a bit much for a coin.  The fact that they are doing the big roll out might portend a big release?

This series will be expensive and probably cancelled in a few years.

I'm giving it a wide berth

Not trying to dampen anyone's squibs but historically RM non-coinage items tend to do as well as the majority of their proof coins on the secondary market....

Stuff like this has very little appeal to 99.98% of the population (trying to be generous with the numbers) and tends to exclude coin collectors.

I like them and would possibly buy them as a curiosity but i have no illusions that they will become sought-after.

More than happy to return to these in 12 months and be proven wrong though !

Royal mint currently engaging in "throw enough poo at the wall until something sticks"

They have alienated so many buyers and their recent price hike is ridiculous

There’s a “live shopping experience” being advertised on the RM’s socials.

The link just takes you to the Register Your Interest page though.

If anything, they should use new packaging.

I’m so bored of the drab packaging they have for all the series now.

One last night of wittering to myself, will it be a coin or seal release...

I like rare and unusual items - I think I want these to be coins, but also understand how unusual they would be if they were seals.

I also want mirrored proof.

I'm still in two minds...

This release is right up my street.. I’m a sucker for history and for monarchy. But I’m not touching this one with someone else’s barge pole. From Royal mint or dealers.

They destroyed my trust and I will never buy another series from them again. Some serie’s that I have started and can only get from RM (great engravers and certain sovs) I will continue, but buying from dealers wherever possible.. but other wise I’m done after what they did with the monarchs. I’ve been collecting Tudor beasts but I’m dropping these too as I no longer have any faith that they will finish the series.

100% agree

I recently got the great engravers waterloo 2 oz from Chards.

It was delayed by like 6 weeks, nothing to do with Chards though.

Just more of the same from the Mint. I think I am genuinely done with anything from them.

It will take some serious change at the top to stop the rot.

Anne Jessop just cost the mint (and tax payer) up to £1.7m in losing an employment tribunal - plus legal fees.

Will this be reflected in her bonus?

Hell no.

I saw the post. They are making money so they don’t care. We are unsophisticated market after all. They only care about US feedback now.

Their new deal with Rare coins of america for £100,000,000 says it all.

Interestingly I had the CEO of RCOA contact me to ask if I would want a chat about the issues I have with the mint.

I told him no thanks, they have gone too far.

I think in 18 months when their deal wears off they won't renew

Then many many coin series will be cancelled

Thanks for confirming - that’s a relief.

(I can’t find the Facebook pic / post anymore. The person must’ve taken it down.)
