Have a bunch of double florins that I need some advice with. Used to dealing with bullion coins so not particularly knowledgeable in this area. Any advice on type/quality etc would be much appreciated. Can provide more pics if you let me know the important bits to catch. 17164603191701388448175597226099.thumb.jpg.8f61d4219cb309ebf12ed87687a666d6.jpg

The double florins are generally neither scarce nor in demand and hence only command a premium in high grades.

These all look to me to be in middling grades or cleaned hence all in the £18-30 range.

Get better pics of the highest grade one and I'll narrow that down

I would agree, I would think £25 a pop for the cleaned/worn ones would be fair. Better grades is not my area of expertise.

As per the comments above really. This one looks the best as far as wear, though it must have gone through some sort of cleaning process, abrasive or not. I'm not all that clued up on cleaning but look at it under a loupe for hairlines.

As far as grade goes, solely based on detail, it appears AU. I've attached some screenshots of 'The Standard Guide to Grading English Coins' for you to compare, though you may not make out the pictures particularly well

The last higher grade Double I sold went for £80+

Sounds like I am fairly alone, but these are probably my favourite coins. The fact that they were minted for such a short time, the ease at which you can complete a date run, and the quirk that they were never demonetised during decimalisation so they are still legal tender 20p coins today.

This is my nicest one, with almost proof like fields. Still less than £40 though!

And I don't know how common this is, but this is one of my oddity double florins, where one of the letters wasn't stamped into the die properly, causing half of it to slope off into nothingness.

And just for fun....

I will be splitting these up in order of condition and posting them for sale. I would consider offers for the whole lot (26 coins) together, otherwise I will be listing them in lots beginning with lower grade coins.

On that grading scale most seems to be towards the upper range. Cross, sceptre etc.

Bottom right is a really nice coin. I would say EF (about equivalent to the AU estimated by Paul

I'm not sure if it's been cleaned - they do often have a prooflike finish.

I would have to see it in person to be sure but this looks to be a £40 coin or on a good day perhaps a little more.
