Gazette Proclamation - St. George and the Dragon

We still got a Roman soldier on horse back.

That’s not the grip of someone trying to thrust his spear into the dragon to kill it. Just looks like he’s limply holding the end bit of the spear to give the dragon a prod.

Own it and Love it.

(With thanks to 9x883 for the suggestion)

It’s actually rather odd they reused this design especially because it was supposed to be commemorating Prince George’s 5th birthday in 2018.

More generally, it’s odd that they reused a Proof design on a Bullion coin after 6 years. I think it sets a precedent that Proofs aren’t guaranteed to be exclusive after all.

I was hoping for the classic sovereign design on a kilo bullion coin... you never know, it could still happen, as that was another of the modern silver crowns:

This would be possible, yes, and very cool too.

And it wouldn’t surprise / bother me because it’s never been a special commemorative design.

When I’m buying a coin, I will typically like to know whether or not it will be available in Bullion too, for several reasons. 🙂

I'm waiting for the RM to cancel this series following complaints from animal rights activists.

Surely you can't laud someone hunting and killing an animal in such a cruel way? And what must have been an endangered species.

Could be even worse if the dragon was the last of its kind. It's glorifying an extinction event.

I have suggested a couple times before that the RM could do a series of the St George and Dragon designs done by their “great engravers” which includes William Wyon without making it exclusively about him.

William Wyon

After seeing the Seals release on Monday, not as coins, but as Seals and with no sight of a proclamation (possibly not needed for a Seal or Medal?)...

Could we see the release of William Wyon's Geroge and the Dragon as a "medal" in a similar format to the Seals?

2oz, 1oz and 1/4 oz gold + Vat?

I really hope so, even with Vat it'll be worth it IMO.
