Queen's Beast Giffin Error?

Recommended Posts

Picked this 1/4 oz Griffin last week, on under very close inspection I have noticed a possible error, or maybe a die crack. Hopefully the pics will show up the 'problem'. About 75% up the first I after Edward there is a raised line which also crosses a said I. I have watched many Youtube vids on this coin and no mention as been made of this. Anyone know anything about this? Any help would be great.

That appears to be a small scratch, as opposed to being an error in the true numismatic sense of the word.

It's not a scratch, but a ridge if you like, which makes me think more a die crack than anything else.

A scratch in the die. Unlikely to be a crack as it's so small and too regular. Cracks tend to be a lot longer and very irregular.

Either way, nothing to get excited about.

Didn't really think it was anything to worry about or indeed getting excited, just wondered if anyone else had noticed it.

With the technology of today it is very unlikely that a die crack would exist in such a modern strike.  You are more likely to see a strike through when the coins are pressed.

Then again, we are talking about the royal mint here.
