i can see what appears to be PLATE at the top of the marks.

At the bottom i see SP ON B - i suspect this means silver plate on brass.

The middle piece i am not sure about - it looks like E ?* ?e s s

Sounds about right to me.

As often, a better photo would have helped, and / or...

... What I often do: copy down what I can see, leaving spaces, then go from there, as @sixgun has shown.

Possibly Google what I have so far, including key words such as:

large serving dish silver...
