Silver Grain

Hi everyone,  can I ask if people collect low price sub standard bullion with spotting, nicks, scratches with the intention just to sell in the future for silver content?  If the answer is yes and their is no semi or numismatic value why don't people collect silver Grain bullion straight from a bullion dealer? Is there a reason why not?  Is it just to live in hope they can make a profit or just break even on spot?  Haven't been collecting a year and just wanted some info please,  Regards Chris

Silver grain has VAT content so already 20% over spot before any manufacturing costs/dealer profit.  A cheaper option would be to buy scrap.

B grade collectible bullion will still have a small premium although significantly less than a mint one.  Some people may just want a cheap one off.  Others fondle and play with their coins so the premium on a mint one would be lost anyway.

When it comes to selling they should get back close to spot but if the coin has become collectible, even with spotting/tarnishing etc it should still hold some sort of premium.  Most people prefer mint coins but there are people out there would are happy to buy less than mint if there is enough of a saving.

Strange,  I've been offered an ounce of silver Grain Inc vat for £11.80,  can't find an oz silver coin for that but thanks for the explanation

£11.80 is a good price as that is £9.83 ex VAT which is close to spot.  I'd expect a price close to that from a refiner but I can't see any profit in it for a dealer.

€15.50 ex delivery is possible for cheap bullion which makes it around £12.48 inc fees.
