Cheapest Silver Round

Scuzzle

Recommended Posts

As above, what is the cheapest generic silver round I can buy in the UK, I've seen rounds that come with designs but they are only a pound or two cheaper than bullion from a mint and still appear to be a few pounds over spot.  Is there not just plain silver rounds with the purity stamped into them that are just a few pence over spot.  I'm just thinking in the future if cash for silver places become as popular as the cash for gold ones are now these would be best purely for weighing in for cash should the price increase enough to make it worthwhile.

You have 20% VAT for a start.

Then you have minting cost, producers profit, producers shipping, sellers costs, sellers profit, and shipping from the seller to you.

Sadly, unlike USA, we can't get rounds for a few pence over spot.

This is why I was asking, I think just a pure silver disc purity stamped available tax free from Europe would sell well for investors wanting to increase the weight of their stack as cheaply as possible, I'm just surprised such a thing does not seem to exist.

It's illegal.

Rounds are taxed fully, coins make use of margin tax.

for those with the facilities to make them backed

by a recognisable name there is much better margins

to be made by adding a theme design.

although you could try to buy blanks/planchets. from

the minting process a mint will acquire(maybe make)

blanks and then have those blanks struck with the design.

blanks should be guaranteed purity, just not purity

stamped. without a theme these should retail close to

spot plus taxes.

edit: looking at prices maybe blanks 'could' retail cheaply

All rounds, bars and coins are taxed at 20% in the UK.

If you want the cheapest of the cheap, then you have to go to Estonia or Germany and buy legal tender coins.  Maples are usually the cheapest 1oz. but 10oz coins can come in close to these.

If you want something with stamps/hallmarks etc then you may wish to consider secondary market items such as crowns, medallions and commemorative stuff.  These will still set you back 20% over spot from dealers but they do make collecting/stacking a little more interesting while still keeping premiums low.
