Agreed. You can only trust them if they know you are pack leader and have worked with them. When that's the case, absolutely I would trust them over most humans. The next mans pitbull not at all. They are a force to be reckoned when you don't have their loyalty, no doubt.

Which is why they introduced a law that you couldn't take them out in public without a muzzle and I think later they all had to be neutered.

Mate did you see his Ben & Jerrys ice cream tub lock that his missus managed to get into, that had me and the missus in stitches.

Yes! I've seen fair few of his videos! I enjoyed that one!

My mate Denzil has one of these. It's a beautiful animal but I have no doubt it could snap my forearm in two if I upset it.

I'd rather it were in another room tbh.

I would be so proud of my dog having done that to some scumbag thief.

Sadly with the dangerous dogs laws such as they are in the UK you and the dog would be lucky to get away with it. I have a friend who recently went through the courts because his dog bit an intruder that was trying to break in. So far its been nothing but an expensive headache for him. Friend has had to spend lots of money ensuring there are two layers of fencing around the property to protect the public from the "dangerous dog" and the dog has to be muzzled in all public places, have liability insurance, etc, etc. It is a pathetically sad state of affairs.

Yeah I totally agree, I was forgetting that in this country the criminal has more rights than the victim, it will have to be a hypothetical dream of living in a different country.

I've decided I'm not going to bother with a safe just yet.

Since found several large-ish nooks and cranny's in the house itself to safely disguise the whereabouts of any PM's. One such place is a recess behind a removable panel surrounded by solid stone bricks, and is large enough to hide the equivalent of a few hundred Brit tubes. I may even take the time to properly smarten it up on the inside just to keep it neat. I had no idea it existed and if you weren't  looking for it (like me) you wouldn't know it was there. I only found it because I was looking for hidey holes. I suspect said recess was originally a place for a possible small water boiler of sorts but whatever it was there's no evidence it had any pipes going into it as there's no holes. Maybe the previous occupant did all that work and then changed their minds?

I’m glad the US, for the most part,  hasn’t gone this way yet. Some bans have fortunately been overturned even here. BSL is basically dog racism. I get that these are powerful animals and should be controlled. But there is no reason a responsible owner shouldn’t have them. Same with guns. You cant take people’s means of protection, saying “oh we are the government, we will protect you.” If anything goes down where I am it takes the cops hours to get here, if not the next day. The only thing they are good for is to carry you away as a dead victim. If more people had guns and pit bulls fewer criminals would act the fool because the know people are prepared to defend themselves. Giving more rights to criminals is BS. Someone breaks into your home or threatens your family, you should be able to mutilate, torture them, cut them up, have your dogs rip them apart. It should be your choice and right to protect yourself from them and never lose a nights sleep. I have no sympathy or mercy for home invasions.

Sounds like a good way to get armed criminals who shoot first and ask questions later to me.

Fortunately armed criminals breaking into your home and hurting or threatening you is rare here.

You're also unlikely to be charged with a criminal offense if your dog bites a burglar unless you order it to do so.  Of course the burglar would be able to try to obtain satisfaction in civil court.

As far as more people having pit bulls putting off burglars I don't believe that for a second as pitbull/staffies and crosses are by far the most common dog in a number of areas around here and burglaries are also very common in these areas.

I heard people say to use a bank safety deposit box. Here in the US, laws changed in 2008 about banks that most don't realize. Basically, everything thing in the bank is the banks property. The money you deposit, including the safe deposit boxes. The crash in 2008, we had bank bailouts. The next crash we'll have bail ins'. Meaning they'll take anything you have in the bank. My own opinion on safes is get the old fashioned dial combo (S & G). If an EMP detonates your electronic keypad will be toast, with no access. And like others have said get the heaviest and bolt it to the floor. A safe is most vulnerable on it's back, to be preyed open. Get the internal hinge type.

Most doors are hallow. You can peel back the laminate, hide you PMs in it and re glue the laminate.

Loose lips, sink ships!

Some truth here for sure. I don’t think it’s an invitation however. Theives go for easy unprotected targets, not a war. And yeah there are a ton of pit bulls where I live as well. Most aren’t trained and would  bark a lot, maybe charge you, but wouldn’t attack you. A Pitbull isnt just inherently dangerous. They are dangerous when you train them to protect. Most people can tell the difference between a pit you can give a belly rub and one that will rip your face off. For people that haven’t really seen these dogs in action, close, personally and often, they don’t really understand why a Pitbull is capable of. Also dogs are for the alert and to subdue people, stun them, hold them down. My gun is what will finish the job if need be.

Thinking about what you said here some more and two additional things come to mind.

Firstly as you mentioned while there may not be many people that will commit violent armed robbery. There are a LOT of burglaries. I still don’t want someone to just be able to walk off with my stuff.

Secondly - I live in the desert of SoCal. Meth capital of the US. A lot of heavy criminal type families that are a few generations deep. Even if a robbery doesn’t start out as violent, many people get killed walking in on a burglar who thought the house was empty. They panic and kill you with your own kitchen knife is something. This is still the wild west in many ways. A lot of murders. Body’s found in mine shafts. I live in San Bernardino county. It’s probably almost half the size of England and one of the biggest counties in the world. Protection is taken seriously out here because generally speaking it’s a very rough place to live on a number of levels. Police are few and far between. Many times won’t even respond, and the criminals out here know this and many times behave with borderline impunity. I have dealt with some very abrasive rough characters out here, that will dump you down a mine shaft over $20 bucks. These are petty small minded dangerous people. It’s not a joke and it’s not fun. It’s scary. And you start to realize you have to take defending yourself and your property seriously.

I. Laying Plans

1. Sun Tzu said: The art of war is of vital importance to the State.

2. It is a matter of life and death, a road either to safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected.

3. The art of war, then, is governed by five constant factors, to be taken into account in one's deliberations, when seeking to determine the conditions obtaining in the field.

4. These are: (1) The Moral Law; (2) Heaven; (3) Earth; (4) The Commander; (5) Method and discipline.

5,6. The Moral Law causes the people to be in complete accord with their ruler, so that they will follow him regardless of their lives, undismayed by any danger.

7. Heaven signifies night and day, cold and heat, times and seasons.

8. Earth comprises distances, great and small; danger and security; open ground and narrow passes; the chances of life and death.

9. The Commander stands for the virtues of wisdom, sincerely, benevolence, courage and strictness.

10. By method and discipline are to be understood the marshaling of the army in its proper subdivisions, the graduations of rank among the officers, the maintenance of roads by which supplies may reach the army, and the control of military expenditure.

11. These five heads should be familiar to every general: he who knows them will be victorious; he who knows them not will fail.

12. Therefore, in your deliberations, when seeking to determine the military conditions, let them be made the basis of a comparison, in this wise:--

13. (1) Which of the two sovereigns is imbued with the Moral law? (2) Which of the two generals has most ability? (3) With whom lie the advantages derived from Heaven and Earth? (4) On which side is discipline most rigorously enforced? (5) Which army is stronger? (6) On which side are officers and men more highly trained? (7) In which army is there the greater constancy both in reward and punishment?

14. By means of these seven considerations I can forecast victory or defeat.

15. The general that hearkens to my counsel and acts upon it, will conquer: let such a one be retained in command! The general that hearkens not to my counsel nor acts upon it, will suffer defeat:--let such a one be dismissed!

16. While heading the profit of my counsel, avail yourself also of any helpful circumstances over and beyond the ordinary rules.

17. According as circumstances are favorable, one should modify one's plans.

18. All warfare is based on deception.

19. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.

20. Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him.

21. If he is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him.

22. If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant.

23. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them.

24. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected.

25. These military devices, leading to victory, must not be divulged beforehand.

26. Now the general who wins a battle makes many calculations in his temple ere the battle is fought. The general who loses a battle makes but few calculations beforehand. Thus do many calculations lead to victory, and few calculations to defeat: how much more no calculation at all! It is by attention to this point that I can foresee who is likely to win or lose.
