Does anyone buy stuff from auctions other than ebay?

Specifically I was looking at London Coins upcoming December auction, was some interesting stuff londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Catalogue

Would have to be online bids as I wont be able to attend it.

I'm not 100% but I think there is a 17% extra on top of your winning bid though, which is quite hefty, tut tempted to bid on a few things still (factoring that in of course) hoping to get lucky.

i was looking at on near me but they add 21% to the sale price, so would really need to get a bargain to be worth it, best thing is to look at their last sale prices to see if it will be worth it, the one near me has a sale on Thursday and looking at whats on offer the best thing I saw was a 2007 1 kg kook, with guide price £250-£300 if you want the link i'll pm you it

I get their email catalogues as well but have never bid,as you say like all physical auction houses there is at least 17% on top some all in charge 22%.

You might get lucky though Kman.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

All auction houses will have a BP (buyers premium) of anywhere between 15 and 20%. Then you can add postage and packing plus VAT.

Therefore, whenever I put in a bid I deduct 25% from the highest I am prepared to go so I am not caught out by high fees.

Currently stacking 1/4 oz (22ct) and Sovs.

I was at the that auction.

I didn't buy any Silver as there were too many idiots bidding everything up.

The 1kg Kookaburra went for £465 including fees.

It was full of old people with more money than sense that probably don't know how to use the internet.

Quite a few of the auctions I have been to recently I have seen Sovereigns go for around £250 each (including fees) there seems to be a lag between the spot price and the auction price.

The Sovereigns that seem to go for good money are usually nothing special, for example Edward VII's with no special mintmarks.

Has to be one of, if not the biggest coin auction houses in the UK. Auction is actually going on at this moment and are held every other month

Have bought and sold, and have to say that they are very professional.

When it comes to selling your collection you might want to consider them as they are prepared to do a deal as long as you have the volume to give them. When you take into account PayPal fees, Ebay list and the hassle of listing each coin it might be worth a consideration. As the catalogue shows they are not short of putting stock in front of potential punters ;( 2200 lots of coins alone this month.)

I sold my Nans Gold at an Auction near me when she died last year, it was in her will for me to sell.   I rang Chards up, then put the mainly sovs necklaces in with a reserve (did a deal with the Auction) they all went for more than I could get from the dealers and the 2 good coins I have myself I paid the going rate to the family for them.  There is a sellers premium of around 12-15% and a buyers premium 15=22%

Just a word of warning to anyone who is going to go to an Auction,  the traders have it sorted out and share items between themselves, when someone new come along the traders take it in turns to bid up against the new buyer on all the lots the new buyer wants to buy.
