Limited edition piece to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

A wartime Spitfire took off from RAF Biggin Hill with a unique cargo on board - a cache of gold sovereigns including this quarter sovereign.

The official Battle of Britain Gold quarter sovereign takes its design cue from the ‘Wings for Victory’ created by an eminent British sculptor William McMillan during World War II. The campaign encouraged civilians to save their money in war bonds and savings certificates to raise funds for Britain to build more aircraft.

The emblem next to the Queen's head on the reverse marks the 75th Anniversary.
