i know of this series, but my personal opinion is that like all modern german coin design these are uninspired in topic and somewhat bland in design.

I kinda like the eagle side, though.

I would love to have a more classically designed german coin, even if it is collector's and not bullion.

Listening to my most basic german instincts tells me these are minted more for the mass market than for the precious metal stacker.

The Lutherrose was an interesting coin/seal but what I find even more curious is the issuer:

Federal Office of Administration (Bundesverwaltungsamt)

Federal Office for Central Services and Unresolved Property Issues (Bundesamt für zentrale Dienste und offene Vermögensfragen)

The Bundesamt für zentrale Dienste is part of the Bundesverwaltungsamt, which is reponsible for governmental coinage and also the official seller of government collector's coins.

Offene Vermögensfragen are also part of this office's responsibilities and refer to cases of unrightful loss of property during the time of the German Democratic Republic (former east Germany) and during the time of national socialism (nazi rule).

edit: had to google this stuff...

Makes you wonder if the coins are made from Unresolved Property Issue gold...

The BVA also issues the German Nationality Certificate for those who dare to apply (and can prove their bloodline back to 1914)
