Just wondering what people think about the HGM low  grade sovereign they have on there site and if anyone has purchased any before?  would they still be good enough as bullion?  I guess I was thinking about getting one to try but a bit worried about what I will get  .

Personally i would pay a few quid more for a better coin. You will find it much easier to sell a decent coin when the time comes.

Always cast your vote - Spoil your ballot slip. Put 'Spoilt Ballot - I do not consent.' These votes are counted. If you do not do this you are consenting to the tyranny. None of them are fit for purpose.

@darrol if you really want to know what to buy i would say buy the Victoria young head. You will pay 30 quid more but they are a good investment.

Have you seen the prices dealers are selling young heads for these days? Even the George and Dragon young heads are a terrific price.

There are plenty of people will pay top dollar for some young head.

Agree with ye olde sixgun.

For a new buyer however, I'd suggest a 2018 coin first.

Feel it, weigh it, measure it.  That's as good as you'll get.

Now you have a benchmark 😊

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

These are a couple of sovereigns i got from HGM last week. i also agree the 2018 sovereign is such good value right now. i don't like these new sovereigns - i don't like their colour.

Chard i think is a good price at £232 for a 2018 - but you need to factor in postage [£9].

https://www.chards.co.uk/products/2018-sovereign-collection

Atkinsons comes in cheaper even though it is £240.62 for one as it has free delivery - then as you buy more their price falls as well.

Sharps Pixley is selling 2019 sovereigns according to them.

The Pixley is a mis print in the site as the coin shows 2018. The price is £235 delivered which is good.

What years are the youngheads. Are they pre 1900?

One word of caution however - the new sovereigns are a totally different colour to the older coins and also have a high gloss.
You need to familiarise yourself with both before you panic believing one could be fake.

Another tip for a newbie - get a full sovereign and a half sovereign and keep them handy as reference.
Always check any new purchase as you will not believe how many people cannot tell the difference.
Seems a no brainer but don't be fooled.
