Planning first gold buy

Recommended Posts

Currently buying silver, but wanting to add small amounts of gold along the way.

What the cheapest way to buy fractional gold I.e half sovereigns, 1/10th oz coins etc. Nothing as small as a gram though.

I know it's more expensive but budget allows about £100/130 a month, no good putting it away and buying one big coin as it will just get spent, at least if I have gold I can't go to the shops with it, more importantly neather can the wife 😉

Cheers guys

I've been looking at this same price point, half sovereigns are slightly better than 1/10ths for price/g premium though its a % or two if you shop around.  I'm looking to mix it up with 1/10th Brits, Krugs, Maples every few months, silver on other months.  Watch out for delivery, cheapest dealers will be without postage, and when you add on they are not so good.

Interesting thread as I am currently looking to buy first gold. With so much information, it seems a bit of a minefield. As someone interested purely in investment, ie; spending money on safe bets to reap the rewards in 25years or so, it seems sovereigns are a good bet. Does anyone buy bars from Royal Mint, for example?
