Is this a good deal? My mum has bought it today

That’s what I thought but I think she was going more on the collectible/low mintage approach. Do things like this tend to increase in value as a collectors item? I’d have said full sovereign but I also said if you like it, buy it. It will be tiny though

From what I understand you have to take caution with the London Mint. I wouldn't count on an increase in value since these aren't official in any normal way. Read this:

I have two 1 gram maple leaf gold coins. Tiny for sure (magnifying glass needed and I have really good eyes...), but they cost me way less.

I don't think that this particular one will ever has more value than its metal content. Of course there is always a chance to find someone who would pay more. ?

i just saw you start a thread saying you have been lurking for some time - this coin is jaw dropping - your mum should have taken some advice. These people are scam artists. The only plus is the free postage.

Cancel the order or send it back and buy a nice sovereign.

edit, just noticed you posted in June....so too late.

I said sovereigns would have been a much better idea and things like what she bought were out of my comfort zone but she’d already got it and hopes it may be worth more in time.

Yup, it was all so quick she just told me one afternoon. We had been picking silver coins and stuff and talking everything through and then one day.......”look what I bought, son”

One thing this and other "TV Advert" type places do is show a nice huge picture of the coin so you think (although not that size) its going to be a decent size. If you have never seen a 1/4 sov before it can be a bit of a shock when you receive it and its tiny.

That is so nice. My mum is similar. At the end of the day, if any mum is happy, that, in itself, is worth more than anything :)

Damage limitation. Make a deal with your mother, no purchase of coins unless she first consults with you.

She said she’s not going to buy any for a while now cos her first purchases were pretty decent so she’s having a break lol.

I have a 1/40 Britannia proof which I believe is the smallest gold coin in widespread production. It wasn't bought as investment - just as a nice curio; and it is nice but I wouldn't get any other years of the same size.
