I have been putting together a type set of the British silver Half Crowns (and Shillings) from Queen Victoria to George VI.
Designs on these can be really stunning.
Here are the 1898 (not sure of mintage), 1887 Jubilee Head mintage 1,176,000, 1903 Edward VII which is a key date with a mintage of 274,800 and the 1916 George V mintage 29.53 million.

Beautiful! It's amazing what different objects can be created out of silver.

How long is it?

Two additions to the world gold collection.

The first is an Indian 🇮🇳 Madras Presidency “Star ️ Pagoda” which were struck from 1740 to 1807. It was a circulation coin with a denomination of 1 Pagoda having a diameter of only 12 mm and weighing 3.43 grams. The obverse features Lord Vishnu and the reverse the star.

The second coin is a circulated 1909 $5 Indian Head coin from the USA 🇺🇸. Mintage (Denver mint) 3.4 million coins.

Yes, it's amazing what silver is produced these days. Here is another stacker from South Korea from Komsco. Kings of the Pirates in a beautiful Ultra High Relief. Impressive the depth of the embossing and these details in the smallest of spaces. The inserted compass even moves. a nice Sunday, Maxe.

I stupidly didn't buy one of those on here the other day.

The more I see them, the more  impressed I get.

I was also very tempted, great addition Max! But I persuaded myself against buying because, while they’ve put an impressive amount of work and skill into the silver, the plastic compass feels like it doesn’t reflect the overall quality of the piece. Just me being fussy though 🙈

Ah cool. There you go, that's my reason for not buying it too.

Much better, crappy little plastic. 😁

Agreed. I think the compass really lets it down. Definitely puts me off buying.

Johnboysilver was selling them at £71 each on Friiiiiday I think it was 👍.  Don’t listen to me Max, I’m sure I’ve got a few things you’d be very unimpressed by haha, just wish they’d used a little brass compass or something metal 😊

Das ist ja cool! Wo hast du das her?
Verkauft das jemand bei TSF? Wie viel?

Bought here in Germany, not cheap, around €100. I haven't bought anything in England since you left the EU. It's too stressful for me with shipping + taxes + customs. All the best, Maxe.

Don't blame you in the slightest Maxe, why would you buy something from someone who thinks it's clever to shoot himself in the foot! All the best

I didn’t know these were not pure gold in the 1990s. It would attract tax here if it wasn’t so little

Pure gold or not… no CGT as British currency to my understanding. :)

Nice looking coins with the frosted background. It that was from Royal Mint (RM) they would be well scratched up, especially the proofs 😜

In Oz, where OP is located, .917 gold is subject to VAT.  Not sure how capital gains tax there works there W.R.T. coins, but a Brit isn't legal tender there.  Same with sovereigns, even though something like half of all sovereigns ever made were minted in Australia.

Edited by Silverlocks

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

So .999 is not subject to VAT? All other gold is? That's strange.

Yes, the rules there require investment gold or silver to be a certain purity.  For gold it's .995, which is the LBMA standard for bullion.  There are no exceptions for coinage as they have here.
