Yours is very good, mine are so bad I've made look like they are made of chocolate!

You may be holding the phone too close, so it can't focus properly.  I did run a sharpening filter on it to see if it improved things.

I am so happy to pick up this tiny 1/40oz silver Britannia. It’s the smallest official coin of Britain.

Pictured on a 5pence coin.

Excellent photography to capture the great design detail, I have the 2023 1/40oz but your design is a better standard I feel.. thanks for sharing, best wishes

This is a matte half ounce silver Britannia, I bought bit because the graded gold one that I own is too valuable and requires safe keeping.

This one will be kept on my kitchen window cill to remind of Edith Cavell (a WWI nurse executed for helping men escape). I am also reminded of Noel Chavasse an army medic in WWI, one of only three men to win 2 VC’s.

To me it represents selflessness and I hope that the police officer who recently died from his injuries saving another will receive recognition

I wish my raw eye sight was as good as some of these cameras! 😄

I've recently discovered my phone takes better photo's if I hold it further away but magnify by around 1.5x.  (Magnify is a swipe upwards on the right hand side of the screen)

Yes totally agree, certainly with my phone this technique seems to be the way to go, as I'm also very shakey these days I should make more effort to steady the camera/phone. Best wishes

For phone shots you can use a pile of books/box/etc of appropriate height with the phone on top. I attach the photo to make clear what I mean. Of course, I'd say as usual, the photo will need some cropping.

That's quite strange indeed, as usually phone digital zooming only makes the macro photo worse and also more difficult to get the subject in focus...

Of course, if it works for you, then it works.

Perhaps it depends on the quality of the phone, mine is steam powered and still looking forward to the 21st century!

Also, try loading the OpenCamera app and learning how to do RAW photos.  Often noise reduction and JPEG artifacts b0llox up the detail on the pictures.

Note that once you've got the RAW photo you need to convert it to JPEG or PNG and crop it, but there are also apps for that.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

Please read my tutorial (in my signature).  It covers this exact thing.

In summary: Often phones cannot focus very close to the subject.  Hold the phone further away, take a picture and then crop the image.

Digital zoom shouldn't make an image 'worse', but it won't make it sharper either.  All it is doing is cropping the image before you take the picture.

I recommend taking the picture from about 12 inches away without zoom, and then cropping the picture afterwards, to remove the excess surrounding background.  Unless you have a phone with a dedicated macro lens, and know how to use it effectively, this is the best way.

@slack you may have a steam powered phone - but you are here, taking part and giving us your thoughts and complements.

It is a lovely way to spend time - thank you🌞🌞
