Can you provide any assurances and insurances that you won't have a boating accident! :D

Hi Guys  not coins I picked this up in a charity shop it a large collection of First day issue stamps....I had to swear to the Mrs I'm not starting another hobby. I could not resist these as it's a great collection someone has built up over the years.   If there's any of you guys know anything about these I'd love to hear about them.  There are 2 sets which are interesting the Heraldry first day cover as this has not been stamped (don't know if this effects the value)  And the 1982 british car FDC as there's a 2nd one of these brand new un stamped and the stamps are still loose.  I bought this as I loved the 1980's kellogg's postal stamp I remember this as a kid.   There are hundreds of these if there's any collectable one please let the know.

Sadly FDCs from the 1970s and 1980s are not worth much.  They were sold in their thousands when stamp collecting was really popular, but now fewer people collect stamps, youngsters are not really interested in stamps and older collectors are dying out (literally!).

Over the years, a number of my friends have asked me to look at stamp collections they have been left following the death of a relative, I have told them that they might as well use any mint stamps from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s for postage (before they are invalidated - following the Queen's death?).  If one looks on eBay, there are thousands of FDCs and most go unsold.

This does not mean that one should not collect them - some are very attractive and others may represent historic occasions.  Indeed it could be said that it is a good time to buy philatelic items, because so much material is coming on to the market - just do not expect it to go up very much in value, unless it is very specialised.

Looks like the start of a stamp collect to me mate! 😂… I gave up on stamps when I went to some place and found 1000’s of first day cover stamps on sale for peanuts/pence…. Also then when I realised they are take up space and can burn 🔥 … lesser then issue with PMs ;)

Though I do miss one thing…. Getting stamps on mail. So a big shout out to those sellers that have used stamps on the SD packages. So much nicer to receive a package with good old fashion stamps! The more the merrier. … I have to battle with “slapped fish” faces from the post office front desk every time I ask them to dig out the stamps! 😕

@Tn21 I think sent me the last decent stamped package!! Very cool! :)

@Zhorro  I did not expect them to be worth much, many of these are nostalgic for me as they trigger memories of being a kid and being excited to be getting something in the post…….I’m gutted I spent of the of fist 20ps in the sweet shop.  Smiths crisps did a offer where you collected 20 bags and they sent a new 20p.

I still love collecting stamps - it’s been my hobby since I was a kid. Lovely to see these FDCs. They may not be worth much, but they’re still quite lovely. 🙂

I've thought about getting a penny black and penny red to go in a set with dated coin of the same era but that's about it.
