Today I Received.....

Message added by ChrisSilver

The Today I received section is for private individuals to share items they have purchased for their collection / as part of their investment.

The Today I received section is not to be used for businesses to promote their business. Trade members and those operating as a business in the eyes of the forum are invited to enquire about a Dealer Sub Forum, where you may start your own Today _____ received topic to post your commercial purchases. E.g. The Today Chards Received..... topic.

Always cast your vote - Spoil your ballot slip. Put 'Spoilt Ballot - I do not consent.' These votes are counted. If you do not do this you are consenting to the tyranny. None of them are fit for purpose.
A tyranny relies on propaganda and force. Once the propaganda fails all that's left is force.

A little holiday reading, as I prepare for my foray into circulated coinage in 2019...

Spinks coming soon!

This little section pictured below may have helped me avoid a potential blunder - the book has paid for itself already!

Might be bad timing to step (slightly) away from bullion given the recent positive, albeit small increases in PMs 🤔

Had a meet up with @Kritika today, always great to talk face to face to fellow forum members and did an exchange for this fascinating 1950 Saudi Guinea. If anyone can explain the writing that would be fantastic, I just love the look of this coin. Same size and weight as a Sovereign.

explain the writing

The face on top translates to: king of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia - in the circle: Abd Al Aziz ibn Abd Al Rahman Al Saud (probably the name of the king back then)

The other face: One saudi arabia guinea - in the inner circle: Minted in the holly city of Mecca. The date is 1370 islamic, which is 1950.

Yep they did. Slightly more to the story... The guy bought the £100 coins using his credit card so he could accumulate reward points, then bank the coins and get his money back. I think it worked for a while until the banks contacted the mint.

Yep. And it gets even more interesting when you read the intro and the RMs use of package engineering, whereby they sell a coin for substantially more by changing the packaging - reference to Trial of the Pyx

Also notes on RM using packaging to shift damaged 'proof' coins for even more than proof versions, rather than melting them down!

Good to know.

Perhaps worthy of its own thread I think
