Received today, I have previously owned these coins and the buyer promised me first refusal when he sold them, so now I have them back  

Small and large date versions of the 1853 half sovereign.  Details assignment on the grade but I will likely keep these slabbed anyway.

RM gets its gold blanks from 4 different suppliers, silver from 3, and platinum from 2.

It would be really interesting to know whether milk spotting is tied to a  particular provider of the silver blanks.

I also wonder, in the case of 22k gold blanks, whether it would be possible to distinguish the providers from the balance material content (assuming there is more than one of them).

Just had a quick skim and there are no mintage figures for any recent bullion sovereigns (as expected I guess) but it does say there were 1,139+360 "Normal" 2020 sovereigns. That seems remarkably low?

You would like to think that the mint would get on top of this as surely if you get say 10, 000 silver 1oz blanks from one supplier they would probably all get put into the system at once?

Starting in 2015, BTN coins of Germany commissioned a set of 16 world famous silver ounces. Each coin was embossed with a 24k gold 'W16' privy mark. There were limited edition sets for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020. The set includes famous 1 oz coins from around the world, including the Britannia.

 

I think each year they limited the sets to 5000. It’s pretty difficult to find 6 loose ones from split sets.

That's cool. I seem to have started collecting the unusual Brits like the early 2000s ones with different designs but your collection is very nice!

A parcel arrived this week with a whole bunch of coins bought over the course of the last few months. Some lovely additions to my UK coin collection.

1) 1817 King George III half crown in “good EF” condition. Mintage 8,092,600. 
2) 1902 silver crown, only year with King Edward VII. Mintage of 256,000 circulation coins.

3) two 1844 Crowns with the Queen Victoria Young Head portrait. Mintage of 94,200 coins. I bought the first one in “about VF” condition then the second one appeared on eBay listed as a half crown and was so cheap I couldn’t resist even through its in rough shape.
