The amount of forum members who have got at me and bloked me for suggesting they alter their buying habits at high prices.  Anyway the ones who have blocked me cannot read this message,
There is nothing wrong in finding the best price.  The more experienced members didn't get burn't.  I hope you didn't get burn't to much.

I can understand the problem, and I think anyone in website and systems design would give a similar explanation.
They were offering about 4,500 coins, which sold out in about 10 minutes. I don't know how many people queued, although that would be interesting.
As I see it, the main problem is database transaction processing and synchronisation.
As the site operator, when do you allocate a coin to a customer? Presumably when he adds it to basket, but do you then deduct that 1 piece from available stock immediately, when he hits "proceed to payment", or when payment completes?
Following from that, how long do you allow something to stay in a basket before de-allocating it?
It would be possible to use an intermediate "reserved" status, but then some people might see a "sold out" status, only for it to be available again a few seconds or minutes later.
A simpler, but clumsier way might be to stop accepting new ordr additions when you hit the issue limit, but knowing there will still be some coins still in baskets, proceeding to checkout, or even payment completed, then review the sold list, and cancel all the oversold ones. I guess the RM must use the last method.
Somebody could ask them, but I doubt you would get a definitive answer.
    "It's run by halfwits."
    Are you exaggerating?🙂

First the anxiety of logging in to RM early enough - am I on the right page, why are there no links etc etc.. Then getting in to the actual buying page only to see a counter placing you behind 3000 other people all trying to do the same thing, then joy as you reach the head of the queue followed by sadness as nothing happens... for 4 minutes - but you dare not leave the page! Then euphoria as the screen changes to reveal the coins... Intense panic as you pick the only product that's still available, then watching in terror as your 1st attempt to pay for it brings up a page error so you have to go back to the start. Then pure joy when your payment finally goes through the 2nd time and you get the email saying you have placed an order - Wahoo! Oh - hang on... stress again when you read the small print and you realise it says 'subject to availability'. Then 4 weeks of daily checking email for the 'Sorry... computer says no' email and more daily checking and double checking of your RM account Open Orders page to make sure all three of the one coin you ordered are still there.
Jeeze - I honestly thought coin collecting would be a stress free pastime - never thought I'd be more stressed than going to work every day! Think I might go back to Base jumping..

Wait another 10 years or so and you may well pick one up for release price or less as happens with most royal mint coins. 😀

I got into a discussion with them yesterday - they made clear that they did noy buy direct from the Mint and had sourced from the secondary market. They were very keen to avoid the notion that they were driving the price, but rather, they were responding to it.
Personally, I feel what they did yesterday was the very definition of driving the price. They used their extensive resources to acquire a signfiicant number of coins and then used their profile to dictate the secondary market price.

I have had time to let things sink in here.  There must of been a lot of que jumping going on.  I was 2400 in the que with everyone only allowed one of each coin it should of been easy to get one.
IMO The RM have been done over by some some serious buyers they have set up multiple accounts and have bought multiple coins.  We will see in a few months one thing for sure i will not be buying this coin on the secondary market.  My advise to all of you DO NOT BUY THIS COIN ON THE SECONDAY MARKET.  Otherwise this will carry on and get worse in the future.
I also will be buying other coins instead, there are lots of coins to buy.  Remember to stop this frenzy is to stop buying on the secondary market at high prices.

I just rang them up.  My order has been cancelled.  The Lady on the phone said any orders placed on the web site that state the following :-
' Thankyou, your order was processed successfully Your order can be reviewed below'
This mean it goes into a Que at the office.  My order was not successful at the office. She went on   'In fact many orders that came through are in the same position!'
I'm thinking there are loads of people waiting for a coin that is just not going to turn up.

Did any dealer actually offer them for sale at RRP?
Isn't the point of dealers to help sell the coins not to be a roadblock between the mint and customers

I've not heard of anyone doing it deliberately but I guess there's an incentive given the price difference between PF69 and PF70. For a silver Una its several thousand. Easy to swap your 69 for someone's 70 before shipping.

I read one coin per household so that could be a bum squeaker for some who went for two coins possibly. Got 1,900 in the queue, got told my address was wrong (it wasn’t and had to reinput until it accepted it), then it took 4-5 attempts at reinputting my credit card before it accepted it. Got an accepted order, subject to availability. This is exactly why I got a £500 PF70 Alderney one, as this was always going to be a bit of a lottery.
