Most of my gold is RM 1/4 oz proof but can't buy them anymore at current premiums. Ridiculous. -
I agree that relying on slabs is dangerous for inexperienced slab buyers. Personally, I trust my ability to determine the authenticity of a slab, given my experience with grading and the tools available on the NGC/PCGS websites, more than I do to determine the authenticity of a well faked, raw sovereign. I’m not enough of an expert in that area.

It seems sensible to point out that a non slabbed Sovereign can also be fake. One of the very definite advantages of slabbed coins (once you become experienced) is that it removes the authenticity question. There are so many faked Sovereigns selling on eBay, which can easily fool a lot of people, that it’s graded only for me now.

The first silver coin I bought was a 1 oz 1996 Kookaburra from eBay, way back in 2010. Have owned 100’s since then, but only have this one currently, picked up last week.

I don’t know how they were sold originally, but they weren’t in assay cards. All of mine are now in capsules. This is the tiger privy from 1998, the first year they were issued.

I like this one. As they’re stylised depictions of fictional characters, the slightly strange hand issue doesn’t bother me so much. -
I just view my physical gold / silver holdings as an alternative pension. I have an old final salary pension which will be worth £4-5 thousand per year, a SIPP, precious metals and whisky. They're all my pension.

Not quite comparing apples with apples though, you don’t have the option of buying 1/4 of a house. I’m not saying don’t buy gold as it rises, I’m saying there will be fewer buyers of full ounces when you look to sell. -
I'd love it to be real, and would benefit greatly, but I've been reading about this cup and handle since about 2012. The handle will be as big as the cup before long. On a related note, why would the price fluctuations of a commodity be more likely to take the shape of a cup and handle, than say a pair of glasses, or some car keys? Always felt like random gibberish to me.

Very few people currently have £1600 to spare - I think it's that simple. Disposing of 1 oz coins quickly will be a growing problem if gold continues to rise. -
