    HelloĀ @whuamai

Welcome toĀ this thread..we are aĀ quite civilised and friendly groupĀ of people!

20 Francs Coins are easy to sell,Ā as they are 90% gold like most other coins used in circulation.

Sovereigns will always carry a small premium,Ā as they are more widely collected.

For me the odd 2 or 3% is irrelevant in what I collect, and I really donā€™t know why so many people obsess about it. If you get 2% less on Ā£10000 itā€™s only Ā£200..not a big deal!Ā

Personally, I collect the 20 francs coins because I find them more interesting than sovereigns..the financial side of things is less important, as I donā€™t believe I will ever sell my collection.

It sounds like Germany is a good place to collect the LMU coins..I have never bought one at spot!

    What date are you missingĀ

  3. WellĀ Ā one a boughtĀ  oneĀ  a exchangeĀ  with 20 LevaĀ Ā Bullgarian and a had to pay 100 euro on top. These areĀ  minted in ItalyĀ  Ā 5000 piecesĀ Ā  each .

In uk hard to findĀ  in eu u can but very high premium

  4. Uu thats a beauty . Full set haa. the only full set a have is 50 p beatrix potteršŸ¤£šŸ¤£.

About the 1899 rooster I think IĀ  pass itĀ  this timeĀ  ,a boughtĀ  Ā another premiumĀ  lmu coinĀ  a show in minuteĀ

    Ā augurĀ  Ā

Nice cleaning coinĀ  Ā  I have to tryĀ it

    Ā

  5. Yes a think its decent price. AĀ have 1900 for a bit less than this one but 1899 is what am after .I will think about it .Just bought few 10 francsĀ  to sit with the 20 francs .

A have to contactĀ  my dealers see what they haveĀ  so I can decide accordinglyšŸ˜‰

    Ā Ā Ā

    Interesting incomplete P in PremierĀ

also @eddi, would you be able to explain the Position A and B on the obverse of Belgian 20 Francs?

IĀ  have one leopold I but the p is normal,Ā  Ā  a rareĀ  one is without a dot after L

    Leopold IIĀ Ā

    Position A and Position B
Position A = With the obverse (head) side facing downwards, the lettering is upright.
Position B = With the obverse (head) side facing upwards, the lettering is upright.

So, what I am thinking after having done the deed...

Looking at the premiums I paid, I realize I entered collector's territory. Not that I mind, but I am still a bullion stacker at heart and you will never find me encapsulating or slabbing a coin. The Rooster I got at bullion premium, the Helvetia was seriously expensive, somwething that does not surprise me, as I already knew from eyeing these as variations on the Vreneli. The Leopold was still in bullion range the Umberto just about entered collector's range.

I bought collector's pieces before, like a 10 Franken Vreneli or a 10 Goldmark, to have variations of coins I'm stacking. I do however keep these to single pieces. Regarding LMU coins, I will not break my rule of not buying gold anonymously. This for me rules out hunting for date runs or specific dates, which I am convinced would only be possible online. I am also much too instant gratification to wait for low prices or low spot, I am buying what I want, and I am buying at regular intervals (cost averaging bullion).

I can see myself completing one of each of the french, belgian, italian variants (the swiss I already have).

From what I know now that would be

    France Napoleon III
    France Napoleon III laure
    France Genie
    France Coq - check
    Belgium Leopold II (variant)
    Belgium Leopold II (variant)
    Belgium Albert (variant)
    Belgium Albert (variant)
    Italy Emanuele II
    Italy Umberto I - check
    Italy Emanuele III (variant)
    Italy Emanuele III (variant)
    Italy Emanuele III (variant)
    Swiss Helvetia - check
    Swiss Vreneli - check

I would need to research if that is possible, as if one of these would haveĀ serious collector's value, I would be out as my very special variation of OCD would not make me want to start this if I could not finish it.

If not, I could see myself adding those that I found of reasonable premium to the coins I will stack regularly (Vrenelis and 20 Goldmark may get boring over time). Design wise I guess these could be french Roosters and Angels.

Now on to look for an old fashioned book on Latin Monetary Union (english or german)...

Yes the Albert coinĀ Ā BelgiumĀ  Ā have a premiumĀ  cos they are 250000 mintedĀ  125000 belgiumĀ  125000 flamish , also the leopoldĀ  1865Ā  .You can get for small premiumĀ  the Austrian 20 francsĀ  and theĀ  Hungarian one . The EmanueleĀ  III have very high premium at least double the gold value .

The 20 lire from 1859Ā  dawn have a big premiumĀ  , the Ā 20 francsĀ  French are easy to collectĀ  from 1848 dawn they command a premium of 30 to 50 euroĀ  Ā but you can collectĀ  themĀ  compared to the Italian onesĀ  Ā which are very expensiveĀ  some dates cost over 500 euro

The rest of them have big premiums and isĀ Ā hard to find oneĀ  for a decentĀ  priceĀ
