... for me with growing premiums +VAT means my Silver purchases from a "shop" are more about buying things I like and no longer about the 'Investment' or base value of the metal.
Prices these days mean high premium bars such at this one cater much more for the the Retail buyer, who won’t understand or care about terms like 'bullion'. They pay higher prices and should get a pristine product. It's not like there is an alternative Proof bar afterall.
For the modern buyer, certainly for those making a pickup's in the likes of Costco, the experience should be just like buying a TV, its not acceptable to say yeah well its dented, but doesnt matter becuase its a lower end TV. It makes being the middleman retailer aweful, but that is simply the reality with premiums these days and not showing the customer what they will get, instead they are shown a glossy slick looking bar online, but recieve something else.
That said @jason94151, honestly the damage doesnt look that bad to me. I would be far more annoyed if purchasing in the retail blister - becuase that really is a 'retail product' and not a bullion investment. But like i said, it really depends on what you paid, and what you intend to do with this bar (i.e. display it? etc)

Yep, heard "It's Bullion" dozens of times for dented or milked coins... to which I quite often have to reply exactly... Bullion not scrap
But damage here isnt too bad and really depends on whether you can live with it and what you paid

Jewellers will use the melted gold to make jewellery, the mark-up on that will massively eclipse whatever you offer them mate, been there tried that and only ever found two jewellers that will sell to me and both do it cash only
I was in a jewellers in Lichfield on Saturday and asked if they had any sovereigns, the lad (owners son) told me his Dad keeps them all.  I asked if they buy and he said yes for £280.  I said don't you mean £380 and he said no.  I told him that was over £90 under spot and his response was that the premises were expensive to keep (ignoring the fact they do not sell on the sovereigns).  I basically told him they were sharks taking advantage of the unknowing and that Atkinsons (which is in the next town over from Lichfield) offer spot on most gold coins which he flatly refused to believe.

I was trying to entice them with the 5% so I could get a look at them! I’m going in tomorrow to get some coins tested. I’ll bring my 2023/24 coins in and see if they will do a straight swap if they have anything good.

Well thankfully the UK version will NOT have the terrible obverse that the US counterpart will have. 😎
I think the Britannia and Liberty reverse will look good in combination with the KC III obverse on the UK coins.

Good afternoon all, firstly thank you for this forum, i've been enjoying my last few days reading through threads and learning from you all. Looking forward to learning more in time.
I'm excited as my first purchase came today, I started with a 1g bar purely for low entry point and I just couldn't wait to get something to start my journey. Plus I like them.
I just had to tell someone and I know that you guys will understand my excitement.
Looking to add each month, likely start with half sovereign's.

    Have a good day!

harrygill111 got a reaction from SpotGoblin in Proof Coin at Bullion Price?
@timsk here are a couple of simple fomulas that are handy...

To figure out how much pure silver troy Oz the piece contains:
    Pure metal troy ounces = (Weight in grams  x  Purity) /  31.1035 So in this example   (56.56 x 0.925) / 31.1035 = 1.68 Troy Oz
To figure out the metal value:
Metal Value of the coin = Pure weight in troy Oz  x Spot Price       So in this example    1.68oz * £18.70 = £31.45
To find a fair price on bullion pieces replace the spot price above with the going rate for the metal, if going rate is £25 an Oz, then a fair price is about £42.05.

Obvisouly a fair price is subjective and will vary for diffferent piece's finishes etc but hopefully this helps. As Pete mentioned, beware of the tonnes of commerative and British Isles coins. Unless you like them of course, in which case buy away!
