Right ladies and gents what do we think is going to happen on Monday?
    - Asia opening from what I have seen at 11pm on a Sunday isn’t usually fireworks
    - European trading is where we go “off to the races”
    So up, down, flat?

I was hoping gold to hit £1650 so I could sell 30oz and pay my mortgage off. Got a year for it to pick back up.

I doubt 'the establishment' are likely to tell you.

This thread is quickly turning in to r/cryptocurrency or r/wallstreetbets. At first the moon talk and memes seemed ironic but I'm starting to have my doubts

Oh I do agree we are in a weird, crazy, inflation bubble and it seems gold is not keeping up. I also agree that when these things reset, which I believe they could/will, there's a good chance gold won't fall off the cliff with them which leaves those holding gold in a good position.
The thing is though these are cycles and if I had enough strongly priced gold and the housing market crapped itself I'd sell gold, take my profit and probably put it there where I can actually make it work for me.
At that stage the gold as insurance has paid out and you have to think about what will happen to your gold as the economy recovers.
End of the day gold is lovely but there's not actually much you can do with it and when the markets/property/businesses are at their lowest they will rise again. Use your gold profits to get in at the ground floor of the next economic cycle.
After all if its a hedge, what else could it be a hedge against?

Any price just becomes the "new normal"  either you will wait for prices to go back to those you remember, and never buy anything again or you just accept the new norm.
I had this conversation about building  materials with a couple yesterday, I said can you tell me the cheapest price of a can of coke you remember she said 36p  (I feel old as I remember 23p)  I said when do you think it will ever be 36p again in the newsagent, she said never  to which I said you have your answer prices only ever go one way over time no matter what you are buying.
Commodities are different as you can have peaks and falls however gold will never be £4 a sovereign again like the 1970's  just like a 3 bedroom family home will never be 3.5k  again.

    Agreed.
Economists thought the price of gold would fall in 1971 once it lost it's monetary role, after all apart from jewellery, who'd want it?
I remember thinking gold was cheap at $250 per ounce, I saw the price rise through the mid-late 00s and then go to $1000 per ounce, where I too thought who's going to buy it at these crazy prices?

I never get the statement that if gold goes up there wiill be no buyers. Increase in buyers is what increases the price - i get these people aren’t necessarily the big needle movers but they will just buy smaller amounts

It wont be unaffordable though Leon, its like saying Bitcoin is unaffordable people just buy less, so poor people will start buying fractional Gold and rich people are likely even richer. Presumably if gold goes to da moon every man and his dog is trying to buy at least some, whatever they can get their hands on. Oh and don't forget India and China lots of people there with growing wealth, finally the biggest hoarders of Gold... Central Banks.
Im not saying its going to da moon but does that answer your question?

    Gold is money.
If gold is £5000 an ounce, then it's the pound that is failing.
The flippers may struggle but the holders (hodlers) will do well on the other side of a collapse 😊

Massive mortgage here and have kids.
Still can afford my allocated funds for my shinanigans but the kids are starving.
On a serious note we budget every six months based upon the previous six months and the only thing that is killing us is any services (boiler, car, roof) and luxury (eating out). Oh and the electric bill.
I have bought a few PM's in the last couple of months but have not really bought much the whole year. Just waiting to see what the world's going to do.

It wouldn't surprise me. There is a huge exodus of landlords at the moment so I'm not taking any action as eventually they'll be begging them back.
