Foster88 got a reaction from Darr3nG in GOLD DEALS - (UK & Europe) See a deal, post it here
I’ve bought one of these today.
If it is 1/4 Troy oz, great it will be 7.8 grams.
If it’s 1/4 oz it will be 7.08 grams. Not so much of a good buy as I originally thought.
If it’s anything like trying to trace my Irish ancestry past my great grand parents, good luck.

So it is 7.08 as the website says and not 7.8? I feel a bit duped now.
So at roughly £347 they’re not under spot price.

any chance you could weigh the coin in its capsule and then weigh a near identical capsule on its own, work out the difference.

No I realise that but if you check other sources they confirm 7.8g.
I think it must be a typo, I don’t see how they could sell a coin as being “1/4 oz fine gold” and shave .72g off it. It would be deliberate mis-selling.
At current prices and if using 0% commission currency exchange (Revolut or similar) it represents a purchase of 1/4oz gold under spot price. I can’t find any other gold available at the minute at a premium that good!

You don’t loose a gram, it’s barely 0.3 of a gram, one is 22ct, one is 24ct.
Irish coin 24ct: 7 grams gold
Sovereign 22ct: 7.3 grams gold
Theres not much in it gold for gold content but £22 price difference for 0.3 of a gram.
I very much prefer sovereigns, don’t get me wrong.
*CORRECTION*
Irish coin 24ct: 7.8 grams gold
Sovereign 22ct: 7.3 grams gold
Approx £22 less for 0.5g more gold.
There aren’t any cheaper 1/4 oz 24ct gold coins that I can find.

Though the fine weight of a Sovereign is 7.3g, so there really isn’t that much difference in gold content. I wouldn’t split hairs over .242 of a gram.

Thanks, I wasn’t supposed to be buying anymore gold this month. 😆
But it was a good price, it worked out at £347.42 including delivery to UK for a quarter oz.

Good price considering these are low mintage proof coins.

Its a good time if you hold some Gold and gold goes up massively against the dollar.
It will kill people with no savings though.

Henry VIII also married six different women, so you know, he wasn’t always right. 😂
On gold, he was right.

A wise move. I did the same with the 2018 and the 2020 sovereign so I can buy the 2021, 2022 and so on sovereign.
Who knows where it will go from here? 🤷🏻♂️

What kind of investment mentality is that. Go all in and hope!? Why not just play roulette, at least then the returns don't take 7 years to materialise
Oh fair enough. 👍
