Cheers @danmc82 - Nice try, but couldn't if I wanted to.  I was new to collecting in 2016 and was just buyin BU coins that year (boo hoo). Only moved on to silver coins the following year so the 2016 silver proof Peter eluded me.  I'd rather save towards quality gold coins than pay crazy prices for other metals.  I missed the Kew boat as well, so if I try to follow the flow I'll end up down in the sewer.😁

Maybe save you a phone call today:
I can only go by my past dealings with the Mint with popular releases such as the Snowman & the 50p Anniversary sets, but if the order is ‘closed’ and it says ‘invoiced’ and your cash is still pending in your account, at some point in the very near future they’ll Despatch your coins and they’ll take the payment.
I ordered my Silver Proof 50p Anniversary Set on the 16th January. It  remained an open order labelled pending for around 5 days, before they then released the hold on the cash in my bank- the order still said open & pending.
Then not until 29th of February I received the email below and it moved to the closed order and invoiced.
If you read the t&c’s it says that if the RM cannot fulfill an order within 10 days it will take the hold off of your cash within 5 days, and you will be billed when the item is actually shipped.
My 50p Anniversary set shipped only yesterday teatime- ahead of schedule, they said in the email ‘late March’.
It makes sense really- my fantasy is this- they likely won’t have anywhere near the 25k Gruffalo’s ready to ship, they’ll likely make a guesstimate of initial orders and work to that and if it never sells out, then they haven’t blown cash- on the ancillary bits & pieces such as the lumps of Perspex, capsules, glossy printed boxes and COA’s- that’s where the expense lies, not the 8g of .925 Silver- that can always go back in the pot.

I didn't register my interest with the RM for this series as coloured coins are not my thing.  I did buy the 2016 to 2018 Peter Rabbit series for my daughter though and it turns out that coloured coins have apparently become her thing - at least those which commemorate the stories and characters that were part of her upbringing, as @h103efa has already alluded to in the case of his children.  My daughter received a standard RM email announcement about the Gruffalo release an hour after they went on sale.  I'd forgotten about the release date but I decided to buy her a silver proof which I was able to do so with minimum waiting time after 3.30am.  After receiving my order confirmation email I then received a further email a few hours later informing me that the Gruffalo series was now on release (a mere 5 hours after the RM had told my daughter).  I've since told her that I've bought her one and it was similar to the frenzy when the Snowman coin was released. She replied "What Snowman coin?"  The RM had forgotten to tell her about that one apparently.  Might have to look for that coin for her now.  Coloured coins are not my thing (he said), but here I am now buying them because dads do anything for their daughters.  😂

I've only seen adverts by the RM advertising 1/4, 1/2 and full Sovs for 100,000% above spot.
Normally celebratory coins, like when Prince George first used a spork, or when Prince Harry wore his first pair of Nike Air Max.

Mine next day too however, it just goes to show the length of time you can actually wait for an order to be fulfilled.
I think shipping time is particularly pertinent to those who buy to flip. I always cringe when I see listings on eBay straight after release- I think some sellers are being disingenuous by not disclosing to the buyer they might not get there Coin (s) for a significant period of time- it’s not really acceptable to casually write ‘I’ll ship out as soon as I receive...’

They did the same thing on the Snowman, it really feels 'off' to me when they hold stock back to sell at a higher price. I had quite a good relationship with them before (and I am sure they still have that personal touch when they deal with customers, which is great - plus they do QA coins by eye when the Mint doesn't) but I haven't liked their approach on the Snowman and now this, so haven't used them recently. Better just to take pre-orders up to a certain limit and then keep stock back until the Mint has sold out. It's a far better 'look' imvho than obviously having stock on the day and holding it back only to double the price.

Each to their own - that's part of the attraction of coin collecting, I reckon.
Coins such as the Snowman, The Grufallo, and the Beatrix Potter series are a cracking way of introducing the younger generation to collecting, and it's great that there's such a wide range for people to choose from - even though none of the above floated my particular boat.

42988 as of now. I wonder how many of these are buyers and how many just curious. If they were buyers I would have expected everything to have sold out by now. Probably a professional flipper with 42000 tabs open on their pc

-Hope I did! (I started in the queue at c7234 in front of me)
Hi, the most frustrating thing about last night and this morning, was how the queue timer changed so quickly. At 00-15am I was advised 9 mins wait..at 00-30 it jumped to an hour!
Got to checkout at 1am, only for the system to crash me out at the confirm payment stage. It then took another hour to pay - main issue was -in the meantime I  had added to my basket again and exceeded the coin allowance, but it doesn’t tell you this!! ( my basket looked empty)
Having spent the last 5 years of my PAYE life working in Process Improvement, I am astounded at how an organisation like The Royal Mint can be so bad. I don’t think the Lean Six Sigma boys and girls have ever set foot in the building!
Such a shame the whole buying process was so poor (my first experience), and that’s coming from someone who may have actually got what they wanted. I genuinely feel sorry for all the parents and kids out there that will be starting the day disappointed.
The sad fact of life is, that there are so many people out there that are just intent on making a quick buck, which you can’t blame them for..but as a parent with two children, mine will not be being flipped any time soon (unless they go crazy expensive 😂 🤑.)
Hopefully TSF members having experienced this before, will have fared better than most.

Yeah it was very messy right from the off. As I said last night when I got my order in I don't know what the point of the queing system was when it seemed completely random and still let more traffic on to the site than it could apparently handle.
Ah well. Now we can enjoy the secondary market roller coaster and see if the demand for this is genuine or not.
