Had a few half sovereigns out on the desk a while back. I don't think I ha left them for a second. Then discovered 1 had gone missing. searched every where. I was about to start moving bookcases and my desk when the other half came into the office. Here she said is this yours. The little one had only lifted the bloody thing and was playing shop with it in her bedroom. Think she was only 4 then. She's like a bloody magpie, anything shiny, Whooosh.

Some time ago, a few years before he passed away during the first covid wave at 96 years old (he was playing golf six months before!) I received a collection of coins from my grandad. He didn't tell me much about them at all other than that he enjoyed collecting and ordering them. As well as these there are lots, and lots of others I may have questions about but these are the boxed ones, some of which contain gold coins so if it's okay I'll post them here and ask later on the silver forum about the other peculiar individual silver ones he had (as well as loads of the old silver half crowns, sixpences and all sorts of other stuff).

Any comments, advice etc on any of them are welcomed, even if it turns out some are copies, not collectable, junk etc. I won't take offence. I have just started going through them and find them fascinating. Looking to do a bit of collecting and stacking after reading up on it all and am looking forward to the journey!

There are a lot so I have created a shared an imgur photos album and have linked the main overhead shots of these selected coins/sets here as an overview. Can take more pics of reverses etc if it helps!

Here is a link to the shared album with some shots of each set. https://imgur.com/a/drDpW5u

    Thanks!

This is great to read. Surely, this is what it’s all about. Another generation discovering a grandparents collection and enjoying learning all about it. Hopefully doing well out of it as well but nice to read stories like this that aren’t just about accumulation of wealth 👍🏼

Finally got my hands on this 1/2 ounce Pyx Gold Standard. I was expecting the coin to look a bit of a mess but I'm pleasantly surprised!

I do understand your viewpoint, but if, like you, I was hoping for increased returns, I would hope that they would be gradual and sustained.
Massive price swings are not good. It's all very well having a pile of gold (or silver in my case) which you're well positioned on, but if the economy begins to collapse properly, it's not good news. Whilst you are weathered from the storm somewhat, a 1922-23 event as in Germany would be catastrophic for all of us. No good getting paid if that very afternoon your wages don't cover your living expenses. Then you have to use your gold, what's left when it's gone? Gold going to the moon isn't always a good thing. Gold tortoising is the best... Slow and steady.

I braved hill and dale to get this weekend's gold n' silver hoard. I fought pirates off the coast of Africa and slayed dragons from the depths of middle Earth. Nope. Internet. 🤗 In the modern world all I had to do was wait for the postman but I did lose a slipper on the way so there was an element of some danger getting this weekend's treasure haul.
A shiny silver n' gold Christmas tree. At the base we have Queenie, gone but not forgotten coz she made for a far prettier coin than Charlie ever will, followed by our reining Monarch, x 2.
And at the top of the tree we have the ubiquitous half sovereign, shining like a pretty little candle adding wealth and beauty to any stack, no matter how small.

Besides, it wouldnt feel right if I don't post about it! 🙃

They've been selling kilo silver bars for a while now. I never looked at the price today but I'll have a look next time. Just noticed I did take a picture of the bars. £983.98 with vat.
