Not against the rules at all, but best practice to send the seller a private message, keeps your business private. Obviously it will be sellers discretion whether to hold or not ( usually a small deposit will secure.

Perhaps slightly off topic, but following on from the last few posts, and a rare insight into my approach to things...

    1. If storing at home... never tell anyone it's at home, unless there's one person you absolutely trust (or leave a clue to them, such as 'the key to my safe if I die, is at XYZ location'). I have not stated any of my PMs (precious metals) in my Will. Other folks will have their own opinions and variations on this stance.
    2. My strategy with PMs is to hold long-term (I'm in my mid-30s). If in the future I want or need to sell a whole load, or family needs to sell under Lasting Power of Attorney / I am deceased, then the PMS are likely to go to a dealer for their ease. I've never sold to a dealer, let alone a significant quantity... so for that reason, and any HMRC or Gov safeguarding, I print off all invoices / proof of purchases, and store them in a secure fire and waterproof unit which is in a secure location. You may wish to consider retaining proof of purchases (and also sales).
    3. Keep a record (secure USB drive is how I do it), of inventory (including any Marsh or Spink references for any unusual or rarer coins) and electronic copies of proof of purchase/sales.
    4. I have a decent safe at home which is fireproof and bolted to the floor, in a hidden location, for the purposes of if PMs arrive via courier, and need to be stored until I can take them off-site. I did not even have the safe delivered to my house. I had it delivered to a work compound when no one was around, ensured that it was in non-descript packaging, and moved it myself to my home. That way, the courier and supplier thought it was for work, and no one new it was for me, or where it was going (my home).
    5. I wanted to have a 1/4 gold britannia, a full, half and quarter bullion sovereign, 1oz silver britannia and 1oz silver eagle to hand, for doing unboxing videos and comparisons on my Sigma PM verifier to prove what I've received from a seller/dealer is real or fake... you can easily hide small amounts like that around the house (see number 6).
    6. Following on from the end of the above point... do not buy a 'book safe' or a 'Heinz tin safe' which is hollow. These are well-known and very unconvincing. I used a tin opener which cuts the inner part of the lid, to cut the bottom off a supermarket branded tin (so it looks convincing because it is a real tin!), and used small neodymium magnets glued on the inside, to hold it in place - I store my two silver coins in here. I use a small, over the counter vitamin jar to contain my full, half and quarter sovereign. All coins are in capsules. I've also hollowed out book, so it looks like a book (because it is!) rather than buy one of these 'book safes'. The benefit of this, is if I want to transport a small amount, it just looks like a book. The inside is padded to avoid any noises coming from anything moving around.
The bottom line... your situation, your strategy, your beliefs will be your own and so think clearly about what you feel is best for you, in your circumstances. If you do keep PMs at home, unless you have someone you can 100% trust (refer to my first point), never tell anyone or let on to anyone that you're into PMs.
Hopefully this has been helpful in some way 🙂

My 1st silver coin was a Morgan Dollar 1887 (Which I still have)  Went into my local coin shop in 2012 to see what gold coins he had, saw it and thought of those classic Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns and banging it down on the bar ''whisky bartender'' and payed £20.  Will add a photo next time I get to it.

Well, I had my display name changed from SilverGlutton (which was just plain ugly) to
SilverToday which I find more suitable for all of us lol. Anyhow, a few days back I bought
a 2024 proof-like 1/10oz Gold Niue Phoenix Coin that I showcased here at TSF and I really liked the
design but ohhh so hard to see well enough so I decided to buy the 1oz Gold version which I received yesterday.
Of coarse everyone's coins in their stack/collection look much better in hand and so does this 1oz Gold Niue lol.
I can't say enough of just how attractive this proof-like 2024 1oz Gold Niue Phoenix Coin with frosted relief really is.
Truly remarkable imo. And the fact it's production was limited to only 10k pieces makes it even sweeter.
Compared to the pix below the Gold color is much more pronounced in hand.
