I just bought a BU from Chards for £504

A BU.. for £504.. jeez lol

It's a coin I feel excited about having, so would rather get it now than miss out.

I feel good about everything about this coin other than the price; I think it may take a while to go up but I do see it going up.

The best reason to buy! :)

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

No malice here intended when I make my reply incase anyone thinks otherwise, so I will go with Edward VIII as a lower mintage and will also say that NO piedforts have ever been minted, just 2 minor points.....and big hugs and kisses to you numi [emoji182]

You can exclude Edward VIII and 1923-SA and 1953 etc so after that is this the lowest? Also Piedfort is not actually a sovereign ... )) hugs back...?

Ahhhh yes, let's exclude history and the fact those coins have actually been minted and are in coin publications to keep pushing your theory. Fact, there are in books and are out there, fact, there has NEVER been a PIEDFORT SOVEREIGN, the use of the words PIEDFORT and SOVEREIGN come from the RM and not from me. You are still trying to prove something. Attached is a picture of the 5 sovereign, shall we change the name of it to suit your theory or will we stick with Sovereign?
Tell me, how many BUs did you buy?

I bought 3 x BU and 1 x Piedfort and I do have an admission to make not previously confessed... I bought a 5 Sov too .... forgive me lord if I have sinned...

What has happened is that the Royal Mint have changed the use of the word Sovereign to become a brand as opposed to a coin.

I have no problem with this and it is clearly much more flexible for the mint whilst at the same time not totally true to its history and tradition.

The 5 sov was just a bit too far for me to tie up at the moment, with a trip back to Blighty in the offing, otherwise I would have the full version of every coin from this 2017 200 year anniversary sovereign series. I will still be after it though down the road @arshimo2012

I'm sure that even in the victorian coinage there is a 5 SOVEREIGN, Edward VII, George V Edward VIII and VII all have 5 Sovereign coinage, you seem to try and exclude this in our education of why the mint has recently changed things in the last 200 years in order to fit the last 48hrs. You are also forgiven my son.
I'm also still quite UNsure of your reasons for excluding lower mintage sovereigns that i mentioned previously......

A sovereign traditionally represents a specific weight of gold. So a double sovereign five sovereign half sovereign also represent a specific weight of gold.

In recent years they have changed the concept of a sovereign to represent a brand identity for the premier coin in gold of Great Britain.

My original point was that if you take the one Sovereign coin and look for mintages for a distinct DESIGN lower than 1817 then probably you will not find it.

Historically there are a few mintages less than 1817 but they are ultra rare anomalies.

What is your take on the 5 sovereign BU?

Numi, I'm glad to hear you got the Five Piece Sovereign, and I look forward to seeing the unboxing video and hearing your review. It will be a keeper I assume? Also, I think this 1817 design may actually look better in BU than in Proof. More "classic" because of the fluid nature of the BU strike. But I'll wait to hear your thoughts.

Congrats on being one of the lucky 1000 to be able to get this stunner.

secondary market sale price, £450 rise or 55%, anything for the BU? Lets bear in mind that neither CPM nor even the boys down at the Londoncoincompany had the BU for sale or even talked about it and we know how much LCC like picking up RM coinage

If no dealers have the BU then great? it sold out to collectors (in reality Chards still have 20 for sale)

You can't judge a coin by dealers prices, lets see what they do on Ebay

Also, lets not jump the gun massively, we're still in the week of their release date and they were only pre-order,  lets see what they're doing in 6 months. Lets see what they're doing in a year+

You seem to have a real grudge against the BU sovereign

ps. In yours and @Numistacker  discussion about sovereign mintage's, didn't they do 500 2017 bullion (or BU?) sovereigns this year without the commemorative mark  for £500 or so

Yes I was correct http://www.royalmint.com/shop/q/qsj17std it was 750

So they already did a lower mintage full sovereign this year  albeit a lot less interesting than the BU 1817 inspired

1xpiedfort proof  2xBU

unfortunately can't afford the 5sov

piedfort gone up in price on the secondary market already ..not even out yet lol

BU i think will go up in time as it's the only BU sovereign with the 1817 design(no half or quarter) + the low mintage
