Gold hoard found stuffed in old piano is ‘life changing’ stash of sovereign coins

When the piano’s new owners in Shropshire had the instrument returned and repaired before last Christmas, they discovered a hoard of gold stashed inside.

Now, an inquest in Shrewsbury has heard that the collection consists of an undisclosed number of coins dating from 1847 to 1915.

Experts reckon they were ‘deliberately hidden’ inside the piano, and could be worth a ‘life changing’ sum of money, the BBC reported.

'.......deliberately hidden'

Thank god for experts! ;)

"If the coroner finds they were hidden with the intent of future recovery, the coins will qualify as ‘treasure’ and become the property of the Crown"

Suddenly not so life-changing! If I found them inside my piano, I'd load them immediately into my completely seaworthy boat for safe transport to storage...

I guess the finder will regret rushing to the press and should have trickle listed the sovereigns for sale on this forum and collected 20 - 30 grand perhaps.
Bet the piano owner is looking for a receipt stating "sold as seen" !!

Why and who reported them as being found?

Just be thankful and keep them/sell them and don't tell anyone you found them,

If this was an historic one off piece found ok maybe they should be reported, but sovereigns nah keep them and keep it quiet.

Well... I am done with investing in gold and silver coins.
I am now going to invest in pianos.

Should I buy my pianos "proof" or just standard, run-of-the-mill "bullion pianos"?

I'd buy a tube of pianos at a time to save on postage costs.
