Sovereign scales ebay

Now forgive me if these are a silly item, i know nothing about sovereigns but thought these were quite a cool thing to have if you are into your sovereigns.

There are quite a lot of them about.  I think £20/£25 ish is the going rate.

Doesnt seem to be many going for that money. Heading towards £60.

Is there any purpose to using these over digital scales and Calipers?

Digital scales would be a lot more accurate.  These just obviously predate them.

I thought more of a novalty collectable rather than to weigh. Seems they are over priced tho !

£40 + will get you a really nice set,not neccessarily off  e-bay £60+ on there but often come across them in antques shops,curio shops ec........nice addition as a purely collectable item,much better with nice original box too............plenty about.

Its important to note you can get these scales in their original boxes sometimes, so might be worth waiting for such a listing to come up. Might also be interested in looking up guinea scales, some of these even weigh guineas and sovereigns, as well their half denominations.
