Gold and silver were currencies until they were replaced by the current system it's more likely that the currencies today would be replaced by something else new and cheaper rather than to bring gold and silver into circulation again which would be more costly and is a limited supply of. But what else could the governments monetize and make unlimited amounts of to make absolutely worthless?

the last time silver was lower than 20:1 against

Indeed silver is a bargain compared to gold but whilst one is closer to their true value? That's another point to take into consideration.

Silver and all other hard assets will be repriced when the air finally leaves the inflated paper asset bubbles that have built up over the last 40 years, and the public perception for what is and what isn't deemed "safe" is irrevocably altered. Unfortunately nobody can say when that will be - the markets do not work to yours or my preferred timelines. Buy as much as you are comfortable to hold indefinitely - this should be true of any investment.
