Net income from the sale of U.S. Mint products has dropped over the past decade as the bureau's customer base continues to erode.

The Mint's net income from the sale of numismatic products went from $87.2 million in FY2006 to $66.8 million in FY2015, peaking at $113.2 million in FY2011.

If they stopped churning out such utter junk, I suspect they might reverse the rot.  They're saturating the market with poor quality, poorly designed coins that appeal to too few collectors.  Look at the trouble with the Mercury Dime, or the Reagan set that has totally flopped.

The Royal Mint are in danger of doing the same with the ever-growing number of commemorative issues, which only serves to further dilute the collector-base and entrench some very niche collecting habits.
