Is my 1oz Philharkoniker fake?

Hello.
I bought 1oz golden philharmoniker from one of the leading UK bullion dealer.
What bothers me, that my coin doesn't pass bullion app test. It also doesn't have that nice long-lasting ping. Sound dissapears very quickly and it's dull.
When I compared it to my only other coin - Sovereign, it just doesn't sound like gold.
It's also a bit too thin. Is about 1,9mm thick, where should be 2mm.
Can it be fake?

Thanks
Mike

If the weight is correct, and the diameter is correct, then it's 95% likely to be genuine.

I have not yet seen an example of a fake gold Philharmonica, and depending on who you bought it from, that would further guarantee its authenticity.

Thank You Guys.
Coin bought at ATSBullion.

Just searched for instructions in google how to make Specific Gravity Test.

How i did it:
Checked coin weight - its about 31.15-31.17g
Then put cup with water on scale and zero'ed it.
Then i submerged dry coin in water, result was between 1.61-1.64
31.15:1.62 = 19.22

I'm not sure how accurate my weight is. May be coupe of points this or that way...

Tungsten is 19.25g/cm3 but as I understand it's impossible to make coin out of tungsten, then cover it in thin layer of gold and keep propper weight and dimmensions at one time.
I'm right?

Gold is denser than tungsten so if it had tungsten in it, it would have to be marginally thicker. Not thinner.

Although the density is so similar that i don't think it would be picked up even with vernier calipers.

I'm sure tungsten coins are already about. Many reports about them online with the same measurements as the real thing.

Although your coin is probably genuine and its more than likely the app isn't 100 percent.

Oddly enough this video has one that weighs correct with correct width but has a different thickness. Are you accurately measuring the thickness? If you look at the notches on these clipers this guy is not measuring the rim at all.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello.
Coin was 99,9% genuine.
Dealer exchanged it for other philharmoniker stright away.
My new philharmoniker is 2014 production. Passes application test with no problem.
The old was 2009.

Thanks for your help.
Cheers
