Strange Shilling

I got this coin in a bulk lot.

It's a shilling or pretending to be one but it has a brown coating to it.

It is a little bit thinner and lighter than a regular shilling.

Is it a fake or maybe some kind of minting error shilling/halfpenny hybrid?

If it is fake I would have thought the brown bit would be on the inside but it could be the product of a weird individual with nowt to do.

I've just noticed the lettering on the obverse.   

The obverse is like this halfpenny (top image) .  2nd image is a shilling obverse.

It looks like a metal detecting find,and the ground has been unkind to it.

It looks like it's copper clad over something else.

maybe some sort of token?

might not have been produced with the intention to deceive.

there's wear on georges ear so looks like it's seen some use.

Yes it looks like people have had a scratch at it in the past trying to work out what it is.

It's the shame that date has gone (if there was one).  It would have been on the reverse around 5 o'clock where you can see  the metal underneath.

I considered that it was a magic trick coin but why would they clad the shilling side in copper too?
