Hatton Garden Metals bullion

Hi,

Anybody got experience of ordering, especially kangaroos/nuggets?

Will the coins be in decent condition? Do they test them fully? Am assuming no chance of a fake??

I know I am buying bullion at spot +3%, so not expecting proofs, but am hoping I still get in capsules and decent nic.

You can buy with confidence they will be genuine

It can be a bit of a gamble condition wise, you can ring and ask about the condition but whether you get an accurate answer or not is another matter

Never had a capsuled coin off HGM.  Always been in those flexible plastic coin flips.

Condition is hit and miss - some are great, others have big dents and scratches.

I doubt they'd risk such a good reputation by selling fake coins, though.

Ok cool, we shall see. I guess at 3% over spot it doesn't really matter, I can sell on if not happy. Fingers crossed.

ps: I'll post pics when arrive too. Not sure if they send out same day, maybe here tomorrow.

I've bought a fair bit of gold from HGM and always been happy with the condition (although I'm a stacker and not too fussed about it). Always get them in plastic coin flips, I've never had any with big scratches but sometimes just a bit dull looking.

80% success rate with HGM. Sometimes I don't get the condition I need but I don't think I have ever lost money on a purchase.

All my 1/4 nugs came in original capsules. I would recommend HGM, but if you want certainty pay the extra elsewhere.

Agree BUT I've bought proof coins elsewhere and been very disappointed in their condition with scratches and permanent fingermarks & stains.

When you pay a relatively high premium for a proof you expect it to be near perfect and some well known sellers seem to think their coins are much better than they really are.
HGM to the best of my knowledge is selling bullion only and not making any claims to condition but will always accept a return of a very poor coin. I've received proof sovereigns and half sovereigns from HGM in original RM caps but they weren't FDC condition but no complaints at bullion price.

Guys, I made a hilarious newbie school boy error!, although I have collected coins on and off since 2012, so should have known better.

Basically, for bullion, in the past I have only collectd the kangaroo nuggets at fractional weights, and I assumed I was buying two kangaroos based on the picture. What they sent me was 2 lunar coins! I guess checking the site it does say nugget, which must be a generic term across all Australian Perth mint bullion. The funny thing is I am actually not really bothered. Both coins are absolutely immaculate in capsule and would have cost me £25 more from any other bullion dealer. So for 3% over spot it's turned out fine in the end. I rather like the rabbit.

I'd say you did rather well on that one!  A very popular series... and now I'm bloody tempted to buy next time I see they have Nuggets in stock!

Hi, they have 3 1/4 nuggets left. I rang them and two are mint in capsule. I think it was another 2015, a 2014 and a 2016. The last one is currently out of a capsule. Assuming all lunars, that's another goat, a horse and a loose monkey.

Thanks for that. I'll always ask in future now. Are some of the bullion lunars more desirable, or is bullion bullion? I don't really know in great detail. Occasionally a certain date Kangaroo can have a slight premium based on the year I guess.

It was a funny moment fully expecting a Kangaroo and pulling a rabbit out of the hat (package). I had to do a double take.

In fractionals, Mouse, Ox and Tiger carry the highest premiums.  In 1oz, it's currently the Mouse, Tiger & Dragon.  The premium can be quite substantial.

Yes I've noticed their definition of nugget is a little broad when I've enquired about their stock.

you mean wrong :)

With all the specific requests regarding condition, year etc, how long before we see more coins at HGM attracting more than a 3% premium?

Doesn't bother me as I will always be taking the spot + 2 or 3% option.

Currently stacking 1/4 oz (22ct) and Sovs.

Anybody else noticed that stock isn't moving that fast, most of the stock list is the same as when they pulled is when interest rates were cut.     Or am I missing new listings

They are selling bits and bobs, but yes lot of the same stuff listed for a while unsold

Most things seem to stick unless there are advantageous shifts in spot prices. it's only sovereigns that seem to sell regardless.
