Graded rounds

I've been reading on the forum about coin grading but haven't noticed any mention of rounds being graded.

Are graded rounds less desirable to collectors? I have one silver proof round that I would consider grading but don't really know this side of collecting.

As most of my silver is bullion coins, I do have a few silver proof coins along with my proof round, which is a Jekyll Island round that has it's serial number on the rim.

Would grading increase the value by much? It cost me £27 plus postage, but it would then be out of it's original packaging.

I don't think they will grade them.

I know that with the Chinese Medals and Rounds, they will only grade them if they are minted by one of the official government Mints. There have been a couple of exceptions where the item has been designed by one of the famous engravers for the official Mints.

Thanks for this info, Morezone. I saw some on eBay for sale but didn't look to see who made them. So if one did come up graded and it doesn't fit the criteria, it's advisable to avoid as it could be a fake.

Clearly not worth my while trying to grade my round then.

You need to bear in mind that part of the grading process is to verify and compare the piece against their library.  If they have no means of reference within their library, how can verify it so they grade it?

Cheers

So I take it they buy one themselves, which means they can grade an identical round when it gets sent in?

Would they have a list of rounds they could grade?

Sorry for sounding a bit 'green' on this subject.
