Decision made regarding Perth Mint

You may or may not be interested, but I have come to a decision.

Other than keeping my existing non Perth Mint sets going, I shall only be buying Perth Mint bullion from now on.

I won't be starting any new non Perth sets.

The PM coins are far and away my firm favourite, I just love the quality, capsules (in most cases) and lower mintages / desirability.

Another reason is the milk spotting on so many other coins, not just RCM. Spots on Perth mint stuff are pretty rare.

I have some good contacts now, both in Australia, Japan and the UK, and the PM stuff is readily available.

At first I didn't want to restrict myself, but now I have breached the "non 1oz" wall, there is so much Perth Mint stuff to buy.

I do have a fair few non-PM date runs to keep going, but they are the only ones I will buy.

Anyway, just wanted to make firm my decision, and welcome any comments.

What about CGT?

People like me who will stack silver, and once it gets to a certain price, will sell it instantly. I plan on having more then 10k worth of silver by the end of the year, and I am pretty much forced to buy Britannia's as my main source of coins.

I have always had a get out plan  @ £30 per oz whether that is the right plan ..probably not , but i will have at least made my investment back and it was a savings account any way my stack. Then i will start again if it go's back down.Plan A is for retirement,so the money raised would go in my pension fund.  Or re-buy after the sell off at a lower price if it go's back down.

CM, you only pay tax on your profit.

If you split it over two tax years, you would have circa 22K allowance.

You'd need a sizeable stack with huge profit to hit those limits.

Which I plan to have once I am ready to sell..... All my savings are going into precious metals, so in 5 years I will have hopefully 100k invested. So when it comes time ot selling, I want to maximize my profits.

I also buy Perth Mint coins but I avoid the colourised ones.

I have in my stack sealed rolls of Kooks hoping in years to come they might sell for the price I paid having bought them when silver was twice its current price.

I think that's pretty much guaranteed Pete.

It's just a waiting game.

Buy more rolls now and it'll pull your cost average right down.

Dude - it's a bit like buying a guitar and then only playing music from one band! Limited. You will come across something one day which is a must have. You'll see! lol

I can't play the guitar.

I'm sure I will come across something, then I'll buy it and moan about milk spots.

We shall see.

I tend to agree, I think variety is the spice of life and all that. As a musician, I'd say if you limited yourself to playing only Iron Maiden you would still have plenty to be getting on with though :D

Thing is, Perth Mint has the variety of designs and sizes, so it's feasible to stick with them only.

It's my current plan of action anyway, I'm actually limiting myself to just PM lunars of different sizes until all the 2015 coins come out.

Well, I suppose it could also be exciting to just specialise for a while. I admit I like sets so I reckon your in for one helluva good looking stack in a year or two! All the horses this year, all the Sheep next year... I am personally looking forward to 2016 - year of the Monkey. I love all things monkey as I was born in the year of the monkey! :)

How far back will you go?

This is the core foundation of my stack. mainly Perth Mint coins. I am also planning to stack some 1oz Panda coins as they appreciate nicely in value, as well as collecting High Relief silver cons, and I will eventually collect a full date run of the Somalian elephants despite the milk spots, and probably start collecting some Perth Mint proofs.

But collecting for the sake of collecting aside, my main silver investments are in the form of Perth Mint coins. I don't think that the quality / potential to increase in value / low risk of milk spots / all round value for money can be beaten.

My posts are my personal opinions, they do not constitute advice or financial advice.
