Half Sovereign Head Collection.

Recommended Posts

Good morning.

I'm putting together a half sov head collection, just for fun.

I think there are 8 heads so far, with a 9th to come next year.

Would you agree with this...or have I missed one?

I'm happy to be wrong!

Cheers,

Roy

Depends what you mean by a "head", please detail your list.

There are 7 monarchs with half sovereign bullion issues.

Your statement of another head next year suggests you are counting different head/bust designs, there are more than 8 of these so far.

Thanks Steve for your reply.

I realise now that my question was too general and lacking information!

To begin, I had to set myself some parameters. The early monarch coins are too expensive for me and until I am confident that I know exactly what I'm looking at, I'll shy away.

Indeed, I was thinking of different head designs, or portraits, per monarch.

As seems to be common practice, I began with Victoria. Young head, Jubilee and Old. (3) Then Edward VII and George V.

Elizabeth II was interesting. It appears there weren't any half sovereigns of the first design. Now, it also becomes confusing when one gives a name to the order of portraits. Some say 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. while others refer to the sculptor/engraver by name. For consistency's sake, I shall refer to them by name. Please correct me if necessary.

(1) Machin (2) Maklouf (3) I.R.B. and (4) Jody Clark.

I have an '82, an '87 (technically cheating, as it's a proof but another head none-the-less) and a '04. The 2016 should give me 9 coins.

Is that fair, or am I bending the rules too much? As mentioned, it is only something to do.

Regards,

Roy
