The Gold Bullion Dealer

Stu

Recommended Posts

There is no company registered as "The Gold Bullion Dealer" according to Companies House , the website indicates no company registration number or VAT number.

It is displaying the British Jewellers Association Logo, yet does not appear to be a member of that organisation according to their website

Same address and phone number as a company called "Gold Bug" http://www.thegoldbug.co.uk/gold-bug-home

Same phone number as http://www.smartbullioncards.com/

No doubt I could find more examples of their many "companies"

I'd steer clear of this sort of "dealer" myself.

Unless someone here can vouch for them steer clear.

That's what I was thinking. They have Scottsdale 10oz reserve bars but looks like they are adding vat onto the full price anyways and are not clear if shipping is extra or added. Will pass I think.

The whois information shown here: https://who.is/whois/https://www.thegoldbulliondealer.com shows that this site is over 2 years old, nearly 3 and is registered to The GoldBug. The GoldBug website states "The GoldBug is registered in the United Kingdom at Companies House. It's registration number is 7995357 and it's registered offices are 41 -42 Warstone Lane, Birmingham, B18 6JJ."

I don't think that in itself is suspicious. As it's not uncommon for one company to own another and trade under a different name. However, I haven't heard of them or purchased from them before. But there are lots of bullion companies I haven't heard of.

What payment methods do they accept? If they accept credit card then your covered under section 75 and your bank is liable if something goes wrong and will have to refund you the full amount, providing you pay for at least £100 of the purchase on credit card. And if the total cost is under £30k. They do have the visa, master card etc icons at the bottom of their site.

Edit: Though at the checkout you have to provide them with your address details, so probably worth doing some more research first.

My posts are my personal opinions, they do not constitute advice or financial advice.

I have never heard of 1/8th krugerrand. The only other source I could find is the site I linked above.

They sell them for £1 each.

The picture is of a 1/2oz krugerrand and the description does not quite make sense (underweight)

This looks as dodgy as a £3 pound coin

Personally I think its suspicious if a company sets up a website without including the details of who owns the website, The Gold Bug website has all the company details at the bottom, so why not The Gold Bullion Dealer.

Another thing I find strange is that the Gold Bug Ltd has only one director, a director who has been a director of 19 companies, of which 9 have been dissolved, and three have been put into liquidation, two were Jewellery companies and one a bullion company.

Whilst this person is probably an upstanding guy, when parting with money for bullion I prefer to do so with someone who hasnt got a habit of opening and closing businesses doing the same thing, at a rate of one or two a year.

Just my opinion of course. :)

It costs next to nothing to set up a company and register it at companies house.

Even small companies would need to spend money to generate sales and with a large majority of the UK stackers now using online sites like the silver forum and YouTube, the odds that someone would of used this company if it was a real company is very high.

  • 8 months later...

Just to be clear I've dealt with this company a number of times since 2012 and have had no issues,

anyone else had experience?

EDIT

just to be clear, I've dealt with Purefine and Thegoldbulliondealer.

costs are clear, shipping is selected at checkout and I usually pay through Paypal

i actually joined this forum to see if people had any experience with them as there premiums seem comparatively low
