Today I Received.....

Message added by ChrisSilver

The Today I received section is for private individuals to share items they have purchased for their collection / as part of their investment.

The Today I received section is not to be used for businesses to promote their business. Trade members and those operating as a business in the eyes of the forum are invited to enquire about a Dealer Sub Forum, where you may start your own Today _____ received topic to post your commercial purchases. E.g. The Today Chards Received..... topic.

Do you pay much over spot for graded coins? I find it very difficult deciding which coins are "best of the bunch" and wonder if it's even worth the effort!

For rare coins/high grades yes!

It’s for people like myself who can afford one coin at the time lol

Might be worth it to grade some of your best shield sovs ..

MS grade will add a nice value to it !

1898 South Africa 1 Pond (almost last coinage before entry in WW I in 1914 but the coins from 1899 will be out of reach of most on this forum)

If it wasn't for the dies from Berlin, it would be the same as any South African Sovereign

Great coin, I have just sold one of these. Unfortunately a high grade slabbed set of all the ZAR coins is way out of reach? They are very impressive at MS64 and above.

The 1887 Jubilee Head Small Spread J.E.B. pictured is a rarer coin so would cost quite a bit over Spot I would think.

Grading a coin costs about $40 £30 per coin for earlier coins pre 1975 and $20 £17 for modern coins.

So if you can buy for just over Spot plus the Grading cost then you gave done well.
