Pre-47 silver coinage is very easy to find,  however the best way to get it cheap IMO is to go for the smaller coins (3d and 6d).
I regularly buy 50% silver 3d way under spot, you just have to know what to search for on eBay. Plus the smaller coins tend to get ignored by most who tend to favour larger Shillings and Crowns, which helps keep the prices down.

I have both versions of these, will put up a pic in a minute for easy comparison, not that it's needed but still useful
They are definitely harder to get in good condition, I've got 3 and all aren't anywhere near the long tail. (On reflection it's actually pretty decent, at least way better grade than the PCGS above)
Personally I've never graded anything, I don't need somebody else to tell me what i have

IMO the grade is aVF, so my guess would be about EF45
I would be inclined to send the pics to Baldwins or Spink etc to get the variety verified and an estimate of value.
Having it graded might not achieve much and variety grading can be expensive. Not something I know a lot about though, others will know better.

Please don't get it slabbed, coins this old look bloody awful in plastic coffins. I have seen it done to far too many Saxon/Norse hammered coins and it really drives me (and many others) crazy.
It would also in my experience make little difference to price or desirability if and when you came to sell it. The vast majority of collectors to which this coin would be of interest are what I would describe as being traditionalist. They tend to be older individuals for which the joy of collecting is to be able to hold a coin which was struck 500-600 years ago, to be able to have a direct connection into the past. These types of of collectors do not attach a great deal of value to a few letters, a number and a plastic case.
At the end of the day it is your coin, so do as you please. But if I was you, I would get an nice mahogany coin cabinet commissioned with plenty of room (to expand in time...) to display what is a fascinating coin and to most importantly enjoy it.

1987 Proof Half Sovereign.  Not quite consistent with my spot +3% strategy, never mind.

I found pictures of the larger coins before grading. The Anacs will be put in a NGC holder. The 1/2 Sov is still with Numi but he sent a pic. I show before and after. I am thrilled with MS 61

Got my first silver Panda. Purchased from eBay due to nectar points and a PayPal offer. I've also got some testing magnets and scales on order just in case, but the seller had a lot of positive feedback, so here's hoping it's real.
Beautiful design though. Definitely keen to get a few different years now I've got this one.

Happy 2-year stacking anniversary to me!! I have not missed a month, and the spreadsheet now says 1395oz silver and 1.5oz gold.
Added 38oz today, mainly Perth Mint stuff. I do love their coins, and will continue to stack their stuff heavily going forward. I was recently inspecting some of my the coins I have acquired, and IMO the Perth Mint stuff is by some margin the best. The designs are classy, I love the frosted finish on the Lunar coins, and all they come in plastic cases which offers another layer of protection. None of them have any blemishes whatsoever.
The other coins I love are Libertads, which imo are classically beautiful, but I have far fewer Libertads than I do Lunars and Kooks.

Picked up this beauty earlier in the day for $385 after deducting 8% in eBay bucks and 2% back on the credit card. First strike and sp70. Another 1/4 ounce to the master collection. Liberty coin was having a sale on these and eBay bucks hit this morning - so it was the perfect storm. Currently it is back to over $500 and no eBay bucks.

Not quite what I was expecting arrived from HGM.
Grabbed 2 proof half sovs £121 each and they turned out to be IOM 1979 commemorative jobs, mintage 30,000.
Got to say, I am quite taken with them. Trouble is my OCD wants me to put them in capsules like the rest of my little hoard.

Picked up these two beauty's at the local coin show today - Considering that they are the old style holders - to find them in mint condition is really hard to do.  Most have handling damage, the plastic separating on the assay card, etc.
