My Piedfort has arrived; I'm now in the horrible position of being unable to focus at work and just want to get home to admire it.  If those resale values stay true, I would have to sell and effectively have a 'free' BU Sov with the profits.

Don't worry too much; I lost a £3k profit in less than 10 seconds the other day due Visa flagging a transaction as 'fraud'.  That was fun...

I'm sure we'll see another 2017 sovereign issued before the year is out :o Anyone for a Christmas Day strike? With a Santa Claus privy?

Heres mine with marks :(

Coinportfolio will be pleased to get a call for a swap on Monday

I wonder wtf they do to their coins, unless they are just unlucky or all the mints send them their rejects?

Mine should be arriving today according to tracking. Direct order from Royal Mint and sent them severe emails reminding them to be super sure about packaging and tightening the screw capsules to make sure the coin is secure due to more handling for overseas delivery etc. We shall see....bit nervous now having seen the coinportfolio one but we shall see.

I really believe in keeping the coin in the capsule so I can tell you that I was happy with my first delivery in so far as the screw capsule was fully screwed closed.  The capsule was very positively secured in a holder with a cant.

Looking forward to seeing your photographs from the LotRS!

Piedfort Tail problem.
I found this exact same issue on 2 out of the 3 Piedfort's I received today. Might be a particular did problem? Note the "ring" half way down the tail.
Returned to Mint for replacements.

My understanding is that the Mint over produce on Limited Editions for such eventualities. They don't just strike 3500 exactly - they expect a few issues. They will only release 3500 with certificates. Presumably, after a few months they can melt down the balance into the next coin issue.

My understanding is that the mintage is what they produce, i've heard the story from a good source who asked them about this scenario and they did say they push out any returns for returns.

Don't want to argue this ad absurdum but I returned one of my Double Quintuple Bicentennial Sovereigns and despite being long sold out they said that they have made provisions for replacement [sic].

My advice would be to check it over if you get it replaced

I second that. But usually the replacements are gradually better than the returned coin until you had enough of the game.

Thanks for that, I will check and check again.
It appears on Proof coins only the Maximum Mintage figure is above that of the "Limited Edition Presentation".
In the Piedfort case on the Royal Mint site under "Specification" it states "Maximum Coin Mintage 3,750".
This is not the case for Brilliant Uncirculated issues where both numbers are the same.

Well they've gone back anyway, so I'll let you know how I get on.
If I get the same Certificate numbers then I know they are from the "extras". If I get a new Certificate then it looks like a return!

"Limited Edition Presentation"

Are coins (or coin sets) in that specific Royal Mint Box as yours. The remainder of mintage can be other individual coins or coin sets.

In this particular case I would think the remainder is some NGC slab in a matching case as the piedfort is not part of any other set.
