🇫🇮 Finland 20 Markkaa 1879-S – Alexander II

A sublime, minty example of this scarce type Latin Monetary Union gold coin from Finland. Adorned with a wheat golden lustre which cartwheels effortlessly around the coin's surfaces. 💫

Please contact me on WhatsApp or iMessage for a video of this coin. It is essential in my opinion.

Boasts the 'S' initial of August Fredrik Soldan, Mint Master, Mint of Finland(1861-1885).

Minted in Helsinki in 1879, this attractive 10 Markkaa was produced at a time when Finland was still an autonomous part of the Russian Empire. This predecessor state of modern Finland was known as the Grand Duchy of Finland and had several Grand Dukes from its inception in 1809 to its demise in 1917.

Czar Nicholas II was the last Grand Duke of the Grand Duchy of Finland, and indeed the last Emperor of Russia. The Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 saw the end of the czarist autocracy in Russia, with the Romanov family being executed in totality the following year. These events spelled an end to, latterly, Russia’s monarchist dictatorship of Finland, resulting in a Finnish Declaration of Independence and a subsequent civil war.

The supplemental photos show a 1835 map of the Grand Duchy of Finland and the Arms of the Grand Duchy of Finland. Notice the strength of the Imperial Russian influence on the Arms of this ‘autonomous’ region…

Sale price is £650 including fully-insured postage to mainland UK.

Payment via bank transfer to UK business bank account.

Thank you!
