Did you print the tubes in PLA, if so is it safe with silver as PVC kills silver coins.

Yes its PLA. I'm not too sure if this will also eventually leak but these are just some scrap grade florins i sit on my desk. I will look into that.

PLA is a kind of compostable plastic made from starch, usually corn. It’s generally touted by its manufacturers as safe simply because it doesn’t come from petroleum. So guess what. 71% of all the PLA samples tested were found to leach EA chemicals as well.

The Point: just because a plastic is made from plants doesn’t make it safe.

 

So it leaks something but not sure the effect.

Thanks it gets easier with practice (I'll just say there's been a few in between). I definitely need to get a proper ring stretcher/reducer to improve the finishing and get the size right more reliably.

Yes, sound like that would be a good idea. I remember seeing your first one. You've come a long way. Guessed there were a few in between but that's part of the process. Practice, practice, practice. I'm sure most will agree that's how we all get good at things.

Been working on the rings again:

Still has some room for improvement. The profile is a bit S-shaped rather than the even motorbike tyre I was looking for. Also over-enthusiastic use of the tools has lost a bit of the edge detail (especially on the inside) but it's definitely an improvement on previous work
